Random Randomness
Hey, I passed my 3-hour glucose tolerance test from Saturday. Whew. What a relief!
Well, we're just hanging out, waiting for Tony to come home. Cam is listening to his They Might Be Giants CD and illegally playing with the computer armoire's doors (I've said "hands off, Cam!" 75 times since this thing's been in the living room). Tony gave Cam his old 35 mm camera to play with last night....and all day long he's been playing with it. Taking pics and saying "cheeseburger!" - I don't know where he got the cheeseburger thing. I mean, I say "say cheese!" when I take his picture, but I don't think I've ever said cheeseburger. I think he just put that one together on his own.
Cam is really dramatic these days. Whenever he doesn't get his way, he has a mini-fit. He's having one now because I made him stop playing with the armoire doors. OK, now he's done and has put himself in time-out! Too funny. He's sitting on the loveseat in his time-out spot. Guess he needed some time for reflection. Cute kid, huh?
Amy and Shawn left for their road trip to Portland today. Pretty sad, but at least we'll get to see them in August for the Vegas wedding. And then again in October when Amy comes home for Baby2's birth. And, if we're lucky, they'll come back for Christmas. Doesn't sound too bad at first, but we ARE used to seeing those guys at least once a week (most weeks more than once). Cam loves Aunt Amy like crazy, so I don't know how he's going to react to not seeing her all the time. We went to Mom's last night for chili and to say our goodbyes. It was really fun but it doesn't seem real that Amy's gonna be living all the way across the country.
So, I typed all of that this afternoon, and now it's almost 10pm. We went to the salon for Tony's haircut and my brow wax. Cameron was really upset when I was getting my brows ripped, so he held my hand the whole time. It was very cute. Funny kid has no problem getting his own hair cut, but when they work on Mommy he's concerned! Then we went out to dinner (yes, we suck) and to Target and to get me a shake at Graeter's. It was so yum.
I'm super tired now and can't wait to slip under the covers with a good (or even halfway decent) book. Except I'm out of reading material at the moment. Darn it. I guess I'll read Your Pregnancy Week by Week. I couldn't find the book for like a month, so I'm several weeks behind. That should fill my reading need for this evening, I hope. Well then, off to change into my jammies.

Hot & quiet, it is
It's Sunday and all is quiet in the House of Maddox. Well, mostly - Hanker just walked across the living room and he's pretty creaky...the poor guy's hip or legs click now when he walks. Tony went up to Centerville with Amy to help move Shawn's stuff down to Amy's apartment. Cam is down for a nap. I am sitting in the living room: the new home of our computer. It's in an armoire/desk thing in the corner and I'll tell you - it feels really weird to be typing in here. It has a keyboard tray that just seems too low for me. Perhaps I'll need to use a lower chair? I'm just using a dining room chair now. The next step in de-officing the baby's room is to get all the rest of the junk off of the "real" computer desk and take it apart. That'll free up a lot of space in there, since the thing is simply massive.
Cam has quite a cold today. He's all stuffy and his eyes look pitiful and he's all snuggly and just wants to lie his head on my shoulder. I feel terrible for the little man. We're supposed to go over to Amy's later, so I hope he's up for it. We also need to grocery shop in the worst way.
I had my 27-week OB appointment Friday. I failed my 1-hour glucose tolerance test again. Same deal with Cam. My iron was fine, blood pressure great, still good on the weight-gain (18 lbs so far), no protein in the urine, nice heartbeat from Baby2. Also, I'm measuring 3 weeks ahead at the moment. We talked a little about what kind of delivery I might have and Dr. W said we'd do an ultrasound toward the end to see how big this baby is. If he's too large and if I can't go into labor on my own, it'll be a c-section. I honestly think that's what we'll end up with, and I'm ok with that. Of course, I would much rather have a vaginal delivery, but I'm just happy knowing they are totally open to either.
I went to St. Elizabeth yesterday for my 3-hour glucose tolerance test. That was lots of fun. More sugary orange drink...lots blood draws...lots of sitting. Actually, it could have been much much worse if my sister wasn't there to keep me company. Time seemed to go by much faster while we were talking about everything and nothing at all.
It's completely stinking hot here these days. In the high 90s with lots of lovely humidity. I guess it's supposed to be in the triple-digits with the heat index. All I know is we are spending lots of time inside. Where it's a consistent 72 degrees!
Wellz, off to do a load of laundry (with lots of sleeveless tops in it!) Stay cool where you are

Aunt Melanie
Lots of news!
First, Cameron has a baby cousin! Stason (Staci & Jason) had their baby Sunday afternoon. We were on our way back from Michigan when Jan called and told us she was in labor and was going to start pushing soon. Then she acted all put-off when we told her wouldn't be able to make it to the hospital that day. Well, Janis, if you'd told us when Staci first WENT into labor at 7am, we'd have left earlier! Anyway, it's a girl! Riley Mai (pronounced "Mae" or "May") weighed in at 8 pounds and was 21 inches long. We visited at the hospital Monday night. She is adorable! So cute and practically flawless. None of the typical newborn blemishes, discoloration or odd-shaped head. AND, I didn't feel funny holding her. Must be different with family! Check out a few Riley photos here! Cam is very excited about Baby "Ri-wee" and I really can't wait for him to meet her. He and I went shopping for her "welcome to the world" gift Monday afternoon and C-note kept chanting "Baby Ri-wee" over and over. We got her three cute little outfits - it was a lot of fun picking out little girly frocks!
We drove up to Bay City, Michigan Saturday to attend Amy's and Shawn's wedding shower there. The drive could have been more fun, but we had a great time at the party! Shawn's parents are rockin' folks and, despite the heat, it was a blast. Cameron had the time of his little life, I think. Shawn's nephew, Zander, is a few months older than C and they played great together. The two could actually be related, with their red hair. There were a few other little ones there and they all just ran around the yard all night, hiding behind and beating on the canvas canopy/tent thing and playing in a big tub of melted ice with fly swatters! I can't believe how unaffected the tots were by the heat. Cam ended up drenched in both sweat and water (Uncle Shawn dunked him in the ice/water tub/bucket thing). I'm glad we made the trip. On the way back, we stopped at an outlet mall not far from Bay City to raid their Carter's store. I bought quite a bit for both Cam and Baby2.
Speaking of apparel for Baby2....I have been going a little crazy since Friday. In those few short days since, I have purchased 8 outfits at stores and have won 2 ebay auctions for gymboree items! I'm starting an inventory of the clothes we have, so I know what I need to get. To make matters worse, a cute new line of newborn clothes is in stores this Thursday at Gymbo. Heaven help me to only buy ONE outfit from the new line. Please. And to think, I JUST posted about having done nothing for this baby yet. Guess I'm remedying that! Check out my inventory of Baby2 clothes if you wish. I think I might add the link to my navigation here, too!
My OB appointment was rescheduled for Friday morning. Second month in a row they've rescheduled on me. Kind of annoying, but at least I have an easy babysitter in Mom. I dread the day she starts working again. For purely selfish reasons, of course! I'll be 27 weeks on Thursday...I can't believe how freaking fast time is flying now! My swelling has increased - haven't been able to wear my wedding set without cutting off blood flow to the rest of my finger in 3 days. I'm wearing my fake big-girl wedding band instead. I don't mind so much, though - it's a cute little ring. I haven't tried to put on my favorite leather sandals since Sunday, but I'm sure they are a tight squeeze. Thank God for my black flip flops! My stomach is a big old mess lately. Whenever I travel, my bowels refuse to do their job, so I get all, um, clogged. Beginning yesterday, though, I guess my body is "cleansing" itself...a little too much, in my opinion. I'm getting pretty tired of everything going in ending up right back out. See, aren't you glad we're so close??
Yes, well, another thing for you to look at - we have a lovely new poll up on the Baby2 Page, so be sure to vote! (Can I direct you to anymore URLs!??)
Enjoy!

A bunch of nothing
Jeez, could I BE anymore lax at blogging lately? I guess not a whole lot has been happenin' these days. Tonight, Tony and I went on a date! I picked him up from work, we went to Walter's eye doctor and picked up some eye drops and then went to dinner at Bravo, which is a yumnastic Italian restaurant. Then we went to Barnes and Noble and I finally got the new Evanovich novel, Eleven on Top. Cameron hung out with Grandma Jackie and Aunt Amy all the while. It was nice to be kid-free for a few hours!
Let's see...tomorrow I am having dinner with Amy. Then Thursday is Shawn's bowling birthday bash and dinner. Friday night is free, but I guess we should be packing for our weekend trip to Michigan, for Amy & Shawn's wedding shower. Busy, busy. I need to fit a brow wax in there somewhere. Oh yeah, and Friday afternoon, Cam and I are meeting my friend Cathy for lunch! Socialites, we are.
Golly, there's not a whole lot more for me to say. I guess I'll talk about being pregnant. I feel not-so-big at the moment. Like, a month ago, I felt huge. But right now, I just feel pleasantly rounded. Somehow, I feel that I was bigger at this point with Cameron. Not that I'd know, since I never took any belly progression pictures with him. I have a couple from his pregnancy, but they are totally random and not necessarily dated. Anyway....I'm just not feeling gigantic. Which is a great thing! Still just a little swelling. Sciatica sometimes. My next appointment is in a little more than a week, on July 21st.
Yes, well, my contacts are making my eyes burn and I'd like to have a beverage and read my silly John Sandford novel (Secret Prey, I think it is) so I'll have to close this THRILLING entry. Hasta luego.

What? I've done zippo for this baby yet?
Oh my Lord, I lurk on a "Due in October" message board and these chicks are already worrying about not having a going-home outfit yet for the baby. And when they should start packing their hospital bag! I mean, I was eager to get/buy stuff when I was pregnant with Cam, but I don't think I was freaking out about what the kid would wear home and not having the bag packed at 6 months! I just find it funny. As for us, we have absolutely nothing done for this baby. Well, we received a couple of gifts at the Maddox baby shower (guess they felt sorry that we weren't getting anything - not that we expected anything, since we are due in October!)...some onesies, sleepers and bibs and a pack of diapers. I know this is bad, but I think I might take the onesies and sleepers back, since we have gobs of that stuff from Cam. Actually, onesies and sleepers may be all that we can use from Cam, since the seasons will be so different. The diapers, though, I'm keepin'! They are Luvs and we've never tried them, but I'm curious to see how they work.
When fall clothing starts showing up in the stores, I'm sure I'll be buying a few cute pieces for the new baby. And we have a lot to do to prepare the nursery. First, we need to put the new armoire/computer cabinet together for the living room, run a phone line to that area and move the computer out of our office. Then we'll take apart our humongo desk apart and store it in my mom's basement. Next, Tony will disassemble the closet system (which is crap, just like all the other closets were in this house) and remove the closet doors. Oh yeah, and sometime, we'll need to pick all of the glow-in-the-dark stars and dots off the the ceiling. Then paint, then chair rail (if we go with that), new closet innards, new blinds for the window, etc. And the biggie, getting Cam into his toddler bed so we can move the crib into the office. I mean into the nursery. Wonder how long I'll call it the office.
The new baby is getting Cameron's dresser and bookcase. The changing table and glider are already in here. We are going to refinish or paint a small chest of drawers that is in our basement for Cam. And replace the hardware on it, since it's pretty ugly. We have a smaller bookshelf that's hanging out in the dining room for Cam's room. It'll all work out, I think! I'm just in no feverish rush to get it done. For one thing, I don't want to lose my office! I just checked maddoxdirect.com and it seems that we had Cam's nursery painted and the crib and changing table set up by the beginning of April - almost 3 months before I had Cam! Oh well, things will just get done a little later this time. I still feel like we have plenty of time.
And rest assured - I won't be packing my hospital bag anytime soon! I mean - isn't a couple of weeks before reasonable enough? :)

24-week Pregnancy Snapshot
My story at 24 weeks...
Boobs....leaking. Just a little. They leaked tremendously at the beginning of this pregnancy, like before I was even out of my regular jeans. Then they quit. Thankfully. They just started leaking again this week...very reasonable small spots. With Cam, they started spotty leaking at 21 weeks - the day we registered for gifts at Babies R Us.
Movement....lots of it! The kiddo is active all night long. And I know this because I've been having really crappy insomnia. And I am a girl who LOVES to sleep. Like, I'll get to sleep just fine, but then wake up to use the lav at, say, 1am and then not be able to get back to sleep until 4am. 2am, if I'm lucky. Baby2 likes to punch/kick my bladder area especially. It's kind of ouchy. I'm enjoying watching my tummy jump with the various movements and hiccups.
Lower back....actually feeling rather good at the moment. I've had the killerest sciatica for more than a month now. And then for like the last week, it's been manageable. Not entirely normal-feeling, but not horrible by any means. I'm not asking any questions. I just hope it stays just like this or even improves! I can't complain too much at the moment! What really soothes my back is swimming. Or just standing in the water, really.
Stretch marks....no new ones. But - shit - my skin stretched so freaking much last time with all my weight gain that I doubt it can humanly stretch any further. Did I just jinx myself?
Weight gain....I am up 14 lbs. I'm quite pleased with this number, since I had probably gained 7,400 lbs. by this time with Cam. OK, so I exaggerate, but really, this is good for me. Especially considering my consumption of sweets. If I can gain only 35 lbs when all is said and done, I will be a happy camper.
Swelling....already having mild swelling of my feet and ankles. Can still wear all of my normal shoes, but my fave sandals are uncomfortably tight some days. And the heat of summer isn't exactly helping, but what can you do? I've been trying to keep my feet up a lot. But then I just feel like a lazy lump and feel guilty for lounging. As if I have this amazing domestic reputation to live up to or anything! My wedding and engagement rings still fit - hooray!
Cravings....not too many. I have been digging my mom's spaghetti lately, though. And soft-serve ice cream. And Taco Bell. What can I say - I'm pregnant.
Coordination....what little I had to begin with is quickly waning. I trip for no reason. I tend to basically fall over when standing virtually still. Dribbling mucho food on shirt. My mom puts the napkin holder right in front of me when we eat at her house. I think I'm replacing my sister as the resident sloppy eater.
So, that's my 24-week snapshot.

Things to think about...
Question: Why is the word 'mic' spelled like that? You know, like the word short for microphone. I hate seeing that word in writing...I think "mic" with a short "i" - a la Mickey Mouse. You just can't add an "e" to the end of 'mic' - then you have "mice"...those little creepy furry creatures. Just something that I think about. It really bothers me, and I wonder if I'll ever get over it.
Tip: If you are going to put your 2-year-old down for a nap, put some shorts/pants on over his diaper. Trust me. When he takes the diaper off and pees all over the place, it's messy. At least he didn't poop, right? You think you might learn your lesson then, and not forget to put pants on him two weeks later. When he again removes his diaper after he POOPS this time and smears gunk all over himself, his Baby, his sheets, etc. Just a little pointer for you.
Concern: OK, so Thursday, Tony, Cam and I had dinner at LaRosa's to celebrate C's birthday. He loves that place. Then we went to visit friends of ours who had a baby like 6 weeks ago. Cam did awesomely with Emily. He was not jealous at all when I held her and he acted all interested and smiley and was very gentle with her. My concern: I was totally uncomfortable holding her! She weighs about 9 lbs and was so little and tiny and fragile. I was thinking, "I don't know if I can do this again! Can I take care of a newborn?" But, really, I've never been one to feel a need to hold other people's tiny infants. I've always been much more comfortable playing with toddlers. I had absolutely no problem with Cam, though. I guess it's different when the baby's your own. I never felt awkward holding newborn C-note and actually had a hard time ever putting him down! So, I shouldn't worry about it, right? That's what I'll tell myself for now, anyway.
Adios.
