Back to the Blog! Vegas-n-such
OK, so lots to catch up on. I am finally feeling lots better from my killa cold. I'm still not 100%, but it's much better now. Right now, Cam is in his big boy bed. I just put him down like 3 minutes ago, so we'll see momentarily if it works this time. Each time we've tried to get him to sleep there, he's gotten upset and scared (including this afternoon for naptime). I'm pretty much expecting him to fumble his door open with tears in his eyes and a quivering chin. It's a pretty sad sight. Crossing my fingers that I'm surprised instead.
Let's see...speaking of Cameron. He has always called me "Mom." He'll call Tony "Daddy" or "Dad," but I've just been "Mom." Until this week, that is! Now I'm "Mommy" in a big way. I think he's said "Mommy" 600 times in the past 5 days! It's kind of cute, but I'll tell you - I might change my name soon...
We had a great time in Las Vegas for Amy's wedding! Cam was decently good on the airplane, but less-than-happy waiting around in the airports. And the security checks were living hell, since we had to put Baby on the conveyer to be scanned for ya know - drugs, knives, explosives, stuff like that. Cam was so heartbroken in LV when he had to part with Baby for like 2 minutes. He cried four rivers and was so inconsolable! It felt like it lasted 45 minutes to me. I was near tears myself and I just shouted at the lady, "Can he please have his stuffed animal back NOW!!!" Good God, I was shaken up for like 30 minutes after that one. It was like someone had cut my son's left arm off!
Anyway....back to LV.
Our hotel: less than wonderful. I mean, the room exceeded my expectations. We stayed at Treasure Island (now referred to as "T.I." to appease the young and hip, sort of, I guess). It was inexpensive and right across the strip from The Venetian, where Amy and Shawn stayed and got married. We'd have stayed at The Venetian, but its elegance was much too spendy for our family affair. So, T.I. They are remodeling, so the walk through the casino to the elevators that lead to the rooms is ultra-narrow. And the casino smelled like cheap perfume or some other ick scent. Our room was decent. Clean and appropriately roomy. However. The other guests staying in our area? Ummm, can you say fraternity brothers? The hallway was constantly noisy, drunkards yelling up and down the halls at all hours. I thought The Luxor, where we stayed in 2002 when Tony and I got married, was much nicer. Anyway. I didn't expect to be bowled over for what we paid or anything. And we were only there for a few days.
The wedding: awesome! It was lovely! Amy and Shawn picked the perfect place to say "I Do." Can I sound any more like an advertisement? The ceremony was in St. Mark's square, over the Grand Canal. Like in the middle of everything! It was really cool. They were like on a platform and we all surrounded A & S on either side of the "bridge" steps as they said their vows and tied the knot. Then they went on a gondola ride through the canal. After, the reception was at a cool restaurant at the Venetian, where C-note had a wonderful time! Finally, we finished the night in Amy & Shawn's suite. Cam and Shawn's nephew, Zander, had an absolute blast running around and playing together.
Oh, and my shoes KILLED my feet. Lots of pain. Tony went to Amy's room to get my sandals and I changed into those at the reception! They totally did not go with my dress, but I so did not care at that point!
I have to share some ceremony & reception photos! Be prepared, there are a few.

Enough pictures for you? Man, I hope they all load!
Alright! So now I'm super-tired from sitting here fixing all these pictures up! Update on Cam: he fell asleep with no problems and is still in his big boy bed 1.5 hours after he went down! Here's hoping for a full night there!
I'm off to take my contacts out and do something mind-numbing. Namely, read a John Sandford "prey" novel. More to come tomorrow.

Sickies
Oh man, I have lots of Vegas pictures to share, as well as other stuff, but I am so feeling like crap right now. Cam, Tony and I all have colds and at the moment I can barely hold my head up. I just got some Sudafed, so I'm hoping some relief will be coming soon. I promise to post a real blog entry in the near, near future!

Sleep, and lack thereof
So, Tony agreed that we should get a lightweight stroller for Vegas and beyond. We went to Babies R Us last night, prepared to buy a $50 stroller....and left with a $90 one! Surprise! I was really and truly set on not spending a lot for this stroller. But the $50 one was just too small and crampy for Cam. I mean, if I want small and crampy, I can use the dinky, non-supporting umbrella stroller I got free for before C was born at Toys R Us. So, we got the nicer model and I think we'll be happy with it. I can totally see it replacing our travel system stroller. And we're pretty much resigned to getting a double stroller, too. We tried other infant car seats on our existing travel system stroller and (surprise) none fit. It was worth a shot, though. It just bites my butt that we'll probably only use the double on a regular basis for a short time. What can you do?
I stayed up until like 12:40 reading last night. I made myself put the book down and go to sleep. Wouldn't you know, I wake up at 5:40 to pee this morning and couldn't go back to sleep. Wide awake, yet tired. Huh? Is that an oxymoron? That's how I felt, though. I laid in bed for an hour before I got up and started laundry and web surfing. See, why couldn't this happen tomorrow morning, when I NEED to get up early? I know tomorrow I'll be struggling to haul my sorry ass out of bed. My OB appointment is at 8:30 in the am...need to have Cameron to Mom's around 8. He's going to hang out with her pretty much all day. After my appt, I'll come home and pack, get some stuff done around the house, take the dogs to Petsuites for their "vacation" (aka, boarding) and get my toenails done. If all works out, I'll be back at Mom's by 2:30, bring Cam home and have him take a lovely late nap. Our flight leaves at 8:50pm, so I guess we leave for the airport around 7 or so.
OH, sleep update: bedtime for Cam Man went wonderfully last night. Without a hitch. He just laid his little head on his pillow, said "night night, Mom" without a second thought and was out soon after. Whew. Could the tylenol I gave him before bed have anything to do with it? Maybe. I know for a fact his teeth are really bothering him. He points to his cheeks when he eats (in back, where those buggers are coming in) and his cheeks have that "I'm teething hard" appearance. Plus, he tells me "teeth hurt" several times a day. Poor guy. Note to self: pack much tylenol for LV trip!
OK, well, speaking of packing, I need to make a master list, so I'm outtie.

Maybe I will win some $$$ in Vegas?
Something's going on with Cameron and his sleeping. All of the sudden, he seems really frightened at naptime/bedtime. He woke up really early Sunday morning, crying. Then, he had 2 short naps Sunday day (instead of one long one). He slept fine Sunday night through Monday morning and napped well Monday afternoon. Then last night, Tony tired to put him down in his toddler bed. He came out of his room, crying and acting really upset a few minutes later. I got him down fine in his crib, but he woke up crying at 11:30. I didn't end up going in there, because he put himself back to sleep within 10 minutes or so. And just now, we had the worst time going down for his nap. He was definitely tired, so I put him in his crib and wend downstairs to do some laundry. When I came back up, he was bawling, screaming, carrying on and begging for me. I got him up, checked his diaper, talked with him, rocked him, tried to make sure he knows bedtime isn't scary and that he has all his animals to keep him company, blah blah blah. I put him down again and it took him another 10 minutes of crying to finally calm down. I THINK he's asleep now. I'm too scared to check! I guess he's just going through one of those growing-up-is-tough toddler phases. Either that, or it's his molars bothering him. I don't know. All I do know is that it's totally not typical for him to have sleep problems.
We went shopping last night to get snacks for our trip to LV. I plan on putting some in our carry-on bag for the plane and packing some for the hotel room. I have no idea how C will eat at the restaurants and such, so I wanted to have back up things he can chow down on back in the room...like applesauce, crackers, junk like that.
I have lots of laundry to do for the trip. We leave Thursday night. I'd love to just get it all done today and pack. But we all wear the same clothes over and over and need the same shorts, etc. that we will be taking for today and tomorrow! Of course, I can get some things ready and packed, like Cam's trunks, beach towel, certain tops, my dress for the wedding... (kinda just thinking out loud here, sorry)
Strollers, strollers, strollers...what to do? We have an Evenflo Portabout 5 (I think that's what it's called) travel system. The stroller is good, not great, but I can't complain about it too much. I mean, it's big and the seatback doesn't sit up as far as I think Cam would like. But it drives ok and is fairly light for a big old heavy stroller. If that makes sense. The infant seat that it came with was fine, in my opinion, until it flew off the base in a consumer test at like 30 mph (it was reported in Consumer Reports, but I'm not sure if they were the people who actually did the test)! So....we need a new infant seat. That goes without saying. Do we need a double stroller? Not sure. Cam still does well in the stroller. I really want a lightweight "umbrella" type stroller (but a nicer one with more support than the cheap ones you can get for 9.99 or free when you buy $100 worth of stuff at Toys 'r us). So, I have no clue what to do. I'm sure we'll end up getting everything: a double stroller travel system with new infant seat AND a lightweight umbrella stroller for later, when Cam no longer strolls, but Baby2 will still need one.
The thing is, I'd like the get the lightweight one now, so we can take it to Vegas with us. But can I justify that? Urgh. Life is so hard. I don't know why we can't have one of those money trees in the backyard..then it wouldn't matter how many strollers we get and how much they cost. And of course, we'd have to transplant the tree into the new backyard of our larger house in a better neighborhood. Hope it survives. We'll probably need 14 more strollers to compete with the new rich neighbors.
Off to the laundry room. Check ya later.

Lazing on a Sunday afternoon
It's Sunday. Tony is watching the Reds game, cussing at the players. Cam is taking a late-afternoon nap. I'm bored, but don't feel like doing anything. It's an odd day. Cam, my champion sleeper, woke up at 5:50 this morning, crying and calling for me. He never went back to sleep, so we all got up REALLY early (for us, anyway!) I ended up falling back asleep on the couch for a bit. Then Tony worked on Baby2's room. All of the wall color is now up. I don't think we'll be doing much more to the room until we get back from Vegas next week. We need a truck to get the chair rail home, but Tony's dad isn't available to help until the 24th, so we wait until then for that. I think it's looking really great in there! Once we get the trim painted white and get the white chair rail up, I think it'll rock. This coming week, we'll probably just put in new outlets and install the dimmer switch. And buy lots of stuff at Lowes/Home Depot (like a closet system).
We just got back from swimming in the neighbors' pool. They are out of town until tomorrow night and told us we could use it anytime. I kinda felt like a trespasser, but oh well! They have this mesh float thing and I was able to lie on my stomach on it! My belly didn't feel compressed or much pressure at all. It felt awesome. We got back home from swimming and Cameron and I went into the bathroom to disrobe. I took his trunks and swim diaper off and noticed that his penis looked, um, primed for a pee, so just as I was asking him if he needed to potty, he peed all over the tile floor! A lot! It was kind of funny. I couldn't stop laughing. Oh well...at least it was easy to clean up.
I think we're going to grill cheddarwurst mets for dinner tonight. And I plan to make mac and cheese (Kraft, of course) and some of the canned green beans that Mike and Brenda gave us. No kidding, they asked us if we wanted beans from their garden. I assumed they'd bring like a plastic grocery bag full of fresh-from-the-garden green beans. Nope! They brought us like 20 giant mason jars full of beans! So, we're totally stocked should there be a national green bean shortage.
So, yeah. The house is a damn mess. The dishwasher needs to be emptied. I was trying to see if someone else would do it (since Friday night) but it's not happening. The icky, smelly, unrinsed dirty dishes are just piling up on the counters and in the sink. Not that they'd be in the dishwasher if it were empty - pretty much I'm the only one around here who believes in actually placing dirty dishes in the actual dishwasher. OK, enough complaining. I'm just going to go clean up the kitchen and dining room so we have a place to prepare and eat food.
Toodaloo.

Snap!
We bought a new digital camera last night. It's the Fujifilm Finepix S5100 4MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Zoom. If you check out the link, please ignore the price...we got it for much less than amazon is selling it for (thanks to a sale at Best Buy, a rebate and a lovely Best Buy gift card!) So far, we're pleased with it, but we're still learning its ways and playing around with it quite a bit. Our old digi was not so hot. It took forever and a day to focus, so I missed lots of "moments" while the dumb thing was figuring out how to focus. And the redeye was unbelievable. I don't mind fooling around with Paint Shop Pro to fix redeye SOMETIMES, but it gets old when it's every shot. So...expect lots of photos in the near future!

Fun with the in-laws; nursery update
Yesterday, Jan had us over to celebrate Tony's birthday. This is a very big deal, since she hardly EVER invites us over. Basically because her house is always a mess and she just can't get motivated to clean it. Her words. As soon as we pull into the driveway, she comes running out to the car, saying, "Hi Cam, I don't want to see them, I just want to see you, blah, blah blah..." and opens the back door and starts messing with Cameron. OK....so I get out and Tony says, "I guess I should get him out of his seat." We were totally unsure of what Jan was doing back there. Anyway, so, she totally - and I mean totally - ignored us the whole time and just played with and carried Cam around. She never said hi to me, so I didn't say it to her! At least we had Big Jim to talk to. She planned on ordering pizza, and when she decided it was time to order, she shoved the pizza coupons and a pad of paper in my face and said, I have to go play with my boy. I'm like, "what are you wanting me to do?" She wanted me to decide what to order and call it in! Anyway, Tony and I decided and Tony ordered the pizza. Finally, Staci, Jason and Riley got there and I was holding Cam and we were looking at Baby Riley in her infant seat. Jan took Cam from me (typical) and literally shoved me out of the way so she could get a better view of the baby! Nice woman, really. Anyway, we ate, and then Jan had presents for "all of her babies" - meaning Riley, Cameron, Baby2 and Tony (since we were celebrating his bday). She bought Riley and Baby2 snowsuits. They are LL Bean and are very nice, but Baby2's is 0-3 months, and I'm not sure we'll need it. I mean, he'll be born in late October, but many times it's really warm in late October around here. Last Halloween, I was wearing a short sleeved t-shirt. Anyway...she also bought Cam a barn coat, but it was on backorder. It looks really cute in the catalogue. I'm just sick sick sick of her having a gift for Cam every freaking time she see him! Even Tony is getting bothered by it. So, the best part was when Stason wanted to leave so they could go home and nurse Riley. It was pouring down rain and Jan was being a FREAK about them going out in it. She insisted that Riley would get sick if she got wet (because we all know that being wet=being sick) and was whining and complaining about them having to leave right then. It was pretty tense. Luckily, we left not long after and they whole ordeal was over. Whew. It was exhausting just being there! At least Cam has fun, I think, with all the Jan-attention he was getting. Albeit really wacky, weird attention! Poor Tony - no wonder he never wants to be around his mom. I think the worst part about being around her is that whenever we try to correct Cam, she always says, "no it's ok" and totally contradicts our parenting. She's such a freak.
Tony has made great strides on Baby2's room! All of the stars and moons are gone from the ceiling. This was a big task, as they were practically superglued up there. The closet system is out. The ceiling and closet are painted, and the room walls are completely primed. Or primered, whichever you prefer. I started sanding the molding just before, but Cam decided it was naptime, so I had to abandon that project for a couple of hours. That's ok, because I had computer-ogling and blogging to do! Oh yeah and laundry. Our house is once again a disaster. We have a glider, kitchen chair, changing table and wire-rack closet things in the living room. The kitchen island is once more jam-packed with office stuff - this time the junk from the closet. Sifting through that stuff is tonight's project. I think we've decided to paint the nursery green, much like this:
We are planning to do the white chair rail and add some stamped tanish-gold and red stars and some hand-painted airplanes here and there, too. The stars and airplanes will coordinate with the bedding colors. Pretty exciting stuff!
Well, I'm off to work on laundry for a bit. And then unload the dishwasher, I suppose. Fun times, right?!

Pretty exciting stuff!

vino casa - or something similar
Last night, I didn't feel like cooking, so I talked Tony into going out. He suggested Carrabba's...we haven't been there is like forever, so I was all for it. It was good, but pricey AND I had to make an emergency trip to the restroom. I hate going to the restroom in the middle of dinner. I hate to leave my half-eaten food, do some ick, and then come back and eat some more. It's just weird. While I was in there, though, I learned over and over how to order the house wine in Italian. Oh, and my son might have some Italian in him yet! He loved the olive oil/herb dipping stuff for the bread! He went crazy with the stuff. He'd my my Dad's side of the family proud, he would.
Then we headed to Lowe's to get primer, rollers and drop cloths for Baby2's room. We found Blue's Clues wall decals in the paint aisle and Cam had to have them. Not one to deny my son, I said sure! So then we had to go over to Target and get blue window valances and a blue throw for his bed to go with. Now his room has mostly a Blue's Clues theme. I need to get him a new lamp shade, since the current on has African plains animals on it. His walls are staying yellow, and that's all there is to it. For now, anyway.
Man, my butt hurts from sitting in front of the computer for so long. I think it's the chair. Plus the length of time in one position. Plus what I think is an irritable tail bone. I made that last diagnosis up. But my tail bone HAS been hurting me a lot lately. They always said I was a pain in the ass. Perhaps I should go relax it in a warm bath. Yes, I think I will.
So much for this entry! Sorry so boring! Maybe I'll develop an exciting life over the weekend or something. ;)

Wednesday Update!
Our dog Hank is afraid of flies. It seems that we have a ton of flies around here at the moment and one gets in the house just about every other day now. Hank cowers behind me or tries to hide in the smallest place possible. What a wimper!
I keep buying the same maternity shirts, just in larger sizes as my pregnancy progresses. Hey, sometimes it's a different color. I know it's kind of lame, but my motto is - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Actually, I would never say "ain't broke" but you know what I'm getting at! Plus, you only get to wear certain things for like 1-2 months before you outgrow them, and I just don't get tired of them by that point yet!
I won my third ebay auction last night! I got a powder blue fleece bunting (aka snowsuit, in my unsophisticated neck of the woods) in size 3-6 months for Baby2 for just $4.99! And it's from The Children's Place, brand new, so I'm stoked. I can totally see ebay becoming a problem for me, though. I'm watching several auctions, one of which is for a pair of used Stride Rite sandals for Cam to wear to Amy's wedding. They are up to $7.50 and have like 4 days left. I'm not sure how much I'm willing to pay for used shoes. All I know is the shoes are still at our store, for almost $30 new. I just wish this was a "Buy it Now" auction and I could just snatch them up. Oh well, we'll see.
Can you believe Cameron prefers whole wheat breads and english muffins to white? I think he's insane, but I'm so pleased about it. Speaking of Cam, his doctor's appointment yesterday went well! The new place is fabulous. Nice, new and fresh. Cam got weighed and measured like a big boy this time - on the big scale! He used to HATE HATE HATE that baby scale and would cry like a madman when he had to lie on the table next to the measuring stick. He's 37 inches (95th percentile) and 35 pounds (just above the 95th). Just like always! I swear, I thought he weighed less, but I guess his lack of interest in food somedays is totally not a factor when it comes to his growth. We had some trouble in the exam room while waiting for Dr. C. Cam would not leave the door alone at all, so I had to make him quit. Which made him very angry, but he got over it! When Dr. C came in, all was fine. Cam was a very good boy during his physical exam. He's doing perfect, by the way. No problems at all! And his cold is just a cold. Sweet!
I need to kick ass on the the house cleaning today (yeah, but without overdoing it, right?) since I invited Mom over for dinner. We are having meatloaf, mashed potatoes, peas and some other veggie that Tony likes. And maybe biscuits. And I'm going to cut up a tomato and cucumber from Grandpa Mike's garden and put some Italian dressing on them. I've got a lot to do - almost the entire contents from the big computer desk is on our kitchen island and I need to organize and purge. Alrighty! Cheerio!

Aww, poop! I mean pee. Huh?
Howdy there, Blog. How's it going? Not a lot happening here. Blue's Clues is on in the background (which Cam is watching as he passes through). Cam is currently opening and closing his bedroom door to the point where I think I just might scream or rip my hair out. The more I ask him to stop, the more attractive the door slamming is, so I'm trying to ignore it. Not that sitting here typing all about it is exactly helping with the ignoring....
Well! So, Cameron just came to me and told me he had to pee. Obviously, his diaper was full of poop, but I took him into the bathroom anyway. We dumped his poop in the toilet and I sat him up there. He flushed (of course, he favorite thing to do) and then peed! For me! He's never peed for me before! Only for Tony (2.5 times)! I was beginning to think I hindered his natural peeing ability or something. Well, yay. Three flushes later, here we are. Clean, fresh and emptied.
Cam has his 2-year checkup today at 4:30. Stop me if you've already heard this, but our favorite doctor left our office and has opened her own practice. So we're moving with her. The cool thing is, the pediatrician she is partners with is the doc from the practice we liked second best! They just opened yesterday - new practice in a new building. They're a lot closer to us now, too. I'm pretty excited to finally get Cam's 2-year in. He's got a cold, but I'm pretty confident it's just a cold and nothing more. We'll see, I guess.
I'll be 29 weeks on Thursday. It really seems like this pregnancy is totally flying by. I can't believe how little time there is before Baby2 is here! We (as in Tony) took our big ole computer desk apart this past weekend and it's in Mom's basement for now. Next step - picking the rest of the stars off the ceiling. Gotta love that. Some of those buggers are really glued on securely. Then, the closet comes apart. Then, painting!
I'm feeling really, really good still. The swelling is currently minimal, although still present. No heartburn, no bad back problems. It just hurts whenever I overdo it, so I should be able to control that. The baby still moves around tons. I'm carrying kinda low this time, so that's different for me. It really feels like I have a baby on my lap. At least I can breathe easily, though!
Hey, Sunday I met another one of my online friends! Lisa, Ted and Lydia were in town for a wedding and we met up at the zoo. It was really cool to see her. It's funny - I didn't feel awkward at all...I guess because we pretty much already knew each other - we just hadn't met in person yet. It was hotter than hell, but we still had a good time. Check some the pictures from our meeting! I have to say, I think I overdid it with all the walking and the heat and pretty much paid for it with a sore back on Monday. But I don't know how you "take it easy" at the zoo. It was worth it, though!
Well, it's time for C-note's bath, so I'll catch you later.
