Sorry for the hiatus
Wow, I guess I should update my blog, huh?
I was supposed to have an OB appointment last Thursday, but they had to reschedule. Apparently, 2 docs are on vacation and the other 2 were off delivering babies or some nonsense like that. ;) I went Friday morning instead. After an hour and a half wait, I saw the doctor for like 5 minutes, and that might be stretching it out. Very routine. Everything is normal. Uterus was measuring 24 cm, which is just a little bit large. I got my yummy bottle of Glucola, which I have to drink an hour before my next visit in July to test my glucose tolerance. I failed the one-hour test with Cam, but passed the three-hour. I hope I can just get by with the one-hour this time. That three-hour test sucks. Lots of blood draws, lots of waiting, lots of boredom! Next visit is July 21st.
We had Cameron's 2nd birthday party Saturday and it was a big success! Lots of fun and lots of great gifts for the C-man. We had a great turnout, but lottttts of leftover food. We always get too much! I am eating leftover veggies and dip right now! Man, was it a hot day, but no one really complained too much. We had the baby pool for the little guys to splash in, Cam's new climber/slide & cornhole to keep people busy. Check out the cool pictures from the party when you get a chance. After the party, we swam for a bit in our next door neighbor's pool, which was an awesome way to cool off. It was a wonderful day and I think everyone really enjoyed themselves.
We found out at the party that friends of ours are expecting their first baby in January! I'm so excited for them and wish them the best. Another playmate for Baby2!
Speaking of babies, Sunday we went to Jonesville for the triple-threat Maddox baby shower extraordinaire. Jason & Staci plus two of Tony's cousins are all expecting in July! It was fun watching everyone open all those gifts, but it was sweltering hot and the party was outside. Cam didn't get a chance to nap, so he was kind of cranked up and I really can't blame him, since I felt pretty uncomfortable myself. He napped the whole drive home, which is like an hour. It really rejuvenated him, because he woke up totally happy. I just have to say - I so value air conditioning!
Yesterday, we went swimming at the pool at Amy's apartment complex. Mom came too, and she actually swam! Cam loved it and took total advantage of having Mom, Amy and me all in the water to boss around. His favorite activity was dancing. We had to dance around and sing "doo, doo, doo, doo..." over and over. If we stopped, he'd be like, "Doo doo!!" and make us sing again. We probably sounded like loons to the other pool-goers! My man is such a little fish. He did awesomely when we got out, too. He just sat back in his chair with my sunglasses on and chilled. He did get pretty mad when it was time to go, though. We both ended up sunburned. I feel like a bad mom for letting my child get burned, but I put tons of sunblock on him. It's not so bad today though - thankfully.
I think we'll just take it easy today. Cam is already napping. Maybe tonight I can look for some shoes. My feet are already swelling like crazy and my favorite sandals are pretty much cutting off my will to live. I need something wide and big. So far, no luck at Kohl's or Target. We also need to drop the Taurus off at the garage tonight to see why the check engine light is on. It's driving fine, so hopefully it's something small. Hopefully.
I think I'm going to take advantage of C's nap and go have a soak in the tub with my book. Not that I'm really enjoying my John Sanford book, but you know once I get started, I just can't abandon a book. Well, unless it's really terrible.
Happy Tuesday to you.

Ready for a new day
I'm so worn out, both physically and mentally. My back is killing me. It's been hurting all day, where it usually only aches in the evening. Cam keeps push, push, pushing me and I know he's just growing up and testing boundaries and all that, but when you are tired, cranky and in pain, it is just a lot to take. My mind feels all foggy. The skin around my eyebrows is sore from where they were just waxed tonight. For some reason, when I'm pregnant, my skin is super-sensitive to waxing and plucking. I'm thirsty. I think I'll go have some water now.
BTW, it cost $254 to replace a 4 bad spark plugs and a wire on Tony's car. At least it's fixed and running now.
Talk more manana (with a tilde over the first "n", of course.)

Melanie Maddox - M&M...Coincidence? I think not.
I have got to say - M&Ms are so wonderful. I mean, can there be a more perfect bite-size candy? And you can be all compulsive while you eat them and arrange them by color, always leaving an equal amount of all colors. See, they're entertaining AND nutritious. There's calcium in chocolate, right?
My curtain project from last night turned out well! The sewing part was a breeze, compared to the measuring, cutting and ironing ordeal. I wish I had one of those professional measuring tables. Yeah, that would be helpful every three years when I want to hem something. Instead, I had to move the dining room table and use the floor! Want to see them?

Wow, they look two different colors! The "closed" photo is kinda washed-out. So, ok. I mean, it's not as if I sewed the whole things...I just hemmed the bottoms, but I am impressed with myself! Check it out - they are relatively straight! (Oh, I hope you ignored the fingerprints on the glass. Cam likes to "whistle" to the dogs with Daddy out that window.)
Tony and Cam went to see Madagascar while I was being all female and domestic last night. Cam did awesome until after the actual movie started. Tony said he really loved sitting in the big chair, munching on popcorn and sipping his water. He said he cracked up at the previews. The problem was, they got there too early and C was bored and fidgety after about an hour. He wanted to walk up and down the row and play with the chair arms (luckily, there were very few people there and C & T got a whole section to themselves). He stood for a while, resting his chin on the back of the chair in front of him. Then they went for a walk. After a while, Cam just got uncontrollable, so they left. But they "saw" most of the movie. After the movie, they played at the park and had good fun. It turned out to be a successful night for all of us.
Tonight, I helped Amy and Mom address wedding invitations. We got the whole list done, expect for a few people she still needs addresses for. It was a good night, except for all of that horrid envelope-licking. Puke. The things you do for family! wink, wink.
Hum, dum. Well, I can't think of anything else to write at the moment. I think I'm in an M&M-induced food coma at the moment. Perhaps more will come to me in the morning, when I'm down from my chocolate trip. Until then, good night from Melanie, Brown, Green, Blue, Yellow, Orange and even Red, too.

Awesome Sunday, Manless Monday? (evening, anyway)
Gestation update: 22 weeks, 4 days along...next OB appointment is this Thursday!
Reading: The Mother of all Pregnancy Books (read it in it's entirety last time - just browsing now) and am trying to get into Rules of Prey by John Sanford. This is a book Tony had in the basement. I am so hard-up for reading material, it's not even funny. Luckily, Janet Evanovich's Eleven on Top comes out tomorrow!!!
We had a nice, quiet Father's Day yesterday. We had talked about going to the zoo, but Tony wanted to get some stuff done around the house, so we stayed home instead. We (mainly Tony) cleaned up our patio furniture and the patio itself. Cam had gobs of fun playing in the water, as you can see here!

After all that messy playing and a bath, Cam had a decent nap. Then we met Jan and Jim for dinner AGAIN at Max and Erma's AGAIN. Jim seems to really like that place. I don't mind it myself, either. No wait this time, since we got there around 4:30. Jan was very well-behaved and I think we had a good time. I had yummy chicken fajitas, which I never get anywhere, but just had a hankering for. Cam had a blast playing with Big Jim, so I call it a success.
Then we came home, cleaned/played some more outside and after a major meltdown/screaming fit because he didn't want to come inside, C-note was off to bed. It was a great day. I wish we could have more relaxed, yet productive, Sundays like that one.
Tonight, I am kicking the boys out of the house so I can work on hemming our new dining room curtains. I've never hemmed anything before with real thread (I have used the iron on hemming tape, but that stuff kind of sucks), so I need quiet, uninterrupted time to concentrate. I really hope I don't screw up, since the curtains were not cheap. Not that they were expensivo or anything, but even lower-priced panels are spendy, in my opinion. Please cross your fingers for me that they turn out decently. Guess where Tony and Cam are going tonight? To a movie! Cam's first movie, and I have to miss it! Oh well, Father-Son bonding is a good thing, and I get to spend tons of time with C on a daily basis. I bet they'll probably see Madagascar.
Alrighty, off to learn how to hand-hem curtains on the internet.

Maybe I'll get a bike
Two cars - two check engine soon lights. That's what we currently have. Piss, piss, piss! The light has been on and off in Tony's car for about a week. He thought at first it was just a tank of bad gas. Guess not. It'll be the first to go to the mechanic Monday night (if we can get an appointment, that is). The Taurus must have felt left out, because yesterday her light came on. What can it be now?? Her engine was JUST serviced! I guess when "Black Beauty" comes home all repaired, Miss Taurus will take its place at the good ole garage. I can hear the credit card company rejoicing already. Damn vehicles!
For the record, yesterday was a very nice, normal day. Whew. I got some good cleaning done, Cam took a nice & long three-hour nap and no one spewed on the carpet!! Three cheers for Friday!
Not so much to report on today. We met Mom for breakfast and then came home so Tony could paint the kitchen ceiling. We had replaced the light fixture in there and the new one is smaller and a different shape, so ceiling that had not been painted in many moons needed to be touched up. Then we tackled the mess in the office. Well, really, just the desk. I filed shitloads of bills, receipts, paperwork and owners manuals that had been piling up for literally a year. Now, Tony is out mowing the back yard, Cam is having a late nap and I am having a headache. I want some fettuccine alfredo from OG, but I doubt Tony will even consider going there on a Saturday night. Actually, some Pasta Woozie from Bravo! sounds even better! Even less chance that T will go there. Oh well. I can suffer, I guess!
A funny: after we had cleaned the desk, I guess Cameron thought it looked too plain and barren, because he brought in his weather vane and windmill from his Little People barn and plopped them side by side on the desk. The finishing touches, I guess!

Off to pop some Tylenol.

Good, nice, mediocre. Please?
It's Friday! And I want to be productive! I want it to be a good day. Not a marvelous day or anything. Just a good, nice, mediocre day. Yesterday, pretty much anything that could go wrong did. If I described the day, it probably wouldn't have sounded so horrid, but - really, it sucked. I think I handled it well, and it ended quite nicely, but the pre-5pm part of Thursday was messed up, to say the least.
The morning started out normally, except Cam fed Walter carrots and he puked them up in the hallway. Yuck, but not a tragedy. Then, Cam asked to lie down for his nap like around 11:40. Fine by me. I thought he was asleep around noon, since it was so quiet. But then around 12:30, my well-intentioned next-door neighbor started mowing our front yard! I think that either woke Cam up or he never had gotten to sleep, because he was definitely loud, chatty, active from there on out. After a while, he was getting so fussy and just wasn't going back to sleep, so I got him up and fed him lunch. I put him back down around 2:30 and he chatted some more. After a while, I thought he had fallen asleep because it was super quiet in there again. I made the big ole mistake of poking my head in his room to see if he was out, and up popped his little head! He saw me before I could get the door closed again and cried and bawled and wailed until I got him up again. I had to get a shower. It was getting late and we needed to be at Mom's last night, so I just put Cameron in the shower with me. I've never fully cleaned myself with Cam in the shower with me. A few times, I've done my business and then had Tony stick him in for a quick clean-up, but I was always holding onto the little man the whole time. He LOVED the shower! He stood there and did everything I did - he mimicked me washing my hair, shaving my pits, washing my belly, etc. It was cute and he really had a blast. After we both got dried off and semi-dressed, Cam decided to go into the office and get a forgotten bowl of watermelon juice (I had eaten all the melon and neglected to take the bowl in to the kitchen earlier - bad me!) and dump the juice all over the carpet! There wasn't much juice left in the bowl at all - but let me tell you: a little bit goes a LONG way. So, I cleaned that up (becoming carpet-cleaning pro at this point). I managed to dry my hair and brush my teeth and was feeling pretty decent about getting us almost ready before Tony got home when I come into the office with Cam's shorts to find him dumping Coke all over the carpet and himself! I know. I am so bad for leaving that stuff out on the desk, but I was caught off-guard by his non-nap and I just suck. So, I change his shirt, use the Oxi Magic once again to clean up the carpet and finish getting ready. All just in time for Daddy to come home. I was totally flustered at that point and was sure Cam would be the King of Bears at Mom's house, since he hadn't napped all day. Happily, he proved me totally wrong and was as sweet, funny and excited as can be almost the whole time we were there. His mood really calmed me down. When we got home, he fell asleep almost as soon as his little head it the crib mattress.
As well as yesterday ended, I just want an uneventful day today, thank you. Actually, I want events to happen, just not negative ones. I'll take a nice, two-hour nap from the little fellow. I want to dust and vacuum the living room (and vac all the rest of the carpets). I also would like to dust the mammoth wood blinds in the living room, too, but I don't want to overdo the physical activity, since that task kills my back when I'm NOT pregnant! Maybe a light dusting, and then we'll clean them better next Friday - just in time for Cam's party. I want to get a couple loads of laundry done. And clean up the kitchen. Yep, that's how I want today to run. Guess we'll see how that goes!
Have a normal Friday!

Vegas, Vomit, Cake, Pregnancy-Muti-topic, really
Welzer, we booked our Vegas plane and hotel reservations. We leave Thursday, August 18 in the evening. We'll have all of Friday to be tourists (family tourists this time, since C-note will be there, too). Amy gets married on Saturday night, with a lovely reception/dinner to follow. Then we leave LV Sunday afternoon. I hope Cam adjusts well to the 3-hour time change. I think we're going to try to keep him up later the week prior to LV. I also hope he'll sleep in a hotel room bed! Another worry - eating in Vegas. He's a picky eater, so we'll just see how it goes. It's only for a few days, and who knows - he might just surprise us all!
Ugh, last night (overnight) sucked. I was awakened a bit after 3am to what I thought was the sound of knocking. Wrong. It was the deep throaty/gaggy sound of Walter getting ready to vomit. Before I could turn on my light and fly out of bed, he had puked in two spots on our bedroom carpet. One big, giant spot and a smaller, more manageable spot. It was so totally gross. Of course, Tony didn't wake up until I had already scooped up the solid stuff, but at least he was able to help with the "stain removal." And I say that lightly because we still have a giant lovely stain next to the dresser. Tony's going to see if the steamer can get it up before we leave for Mom's to mow tonight. Oh, ok, back to the story. So, we get things as cleaned up as they're gonna get, open the windows to air the Resolve-laden room out and turn out the lights. Not two minutes later, Walter yacked again, this time in the corner next to my bedside table. At least that was only grass and some clear stuff. Icky.
Luckily, this morning Cameron let me sleep in super late - until almost 9am!! I did make the mistake of turning my head for like 45 seconds and Cam fed Walter two baby carrots. You probably can see where I'm going with this one...the carrots came back up shortly thereafter, this time in the hallway close to Cam's door. Pukalicious. Not. I'm just begging for a vomit-free afternoon. Please, Walt?
What else, what else. Oh, we had dinner at home last night. Snaps for me. OK, so it was all pre-packaged, sodium-laden food, but we cooked and ate at home! Like normal people! I think. After dinner and the dreaded clean-up, we went to Remke Market to order Cam's birthday cake. Except they had no Blue's Clues cakes! What? They were so popular last year. We wanted to use Remke because they use Busken Bakery, who makes the best cakes, in my opinion. Defeated, we decided to drive to the actual Busken Bakery to see if they decorate with Blue's Clues. We get there at 7, and of course they close at 3pm! So, we were a few hours late. We could only laugh. We decided to try the "new" Super Wal-mart to see what they had. (God, I hate Wal-mart) They didn't do Blue's Clues, either! Next stop: Meijer. Score! They had two Blue's Clues patterns. We chose one and guess what? They were out of the plastic pieces for that one, but had the stuff for the other pattern. We snatched it up. So, cake, check. It'll be ready the morning of the party.
I have to take a moment to talk about this pregnancy. To this point, it has been wonderfully awesome! No complaints, really until now. I had a bit of morning sickness, but I didn't feel nauseous the whole first trimester like I did with C-note. For like a month, I've had some lower back/upper butt pain, which I assume is cause by my loose ligaments. From what I read, it's referred to as "posterior pelvic pain." Mild and definitely bearable. Now, it's driving me nuts. I could barely walk last night! It just gets so bad at night. But then by morning, I'm ok. I'm not liking it, but if it's the only thing I have to bitch about, I guess I'm lucky! Nothing else to mention, really. Well, except I have noticed some mild ankle swelling already. Blah. Lots and lots of active kicking/punching/tumbling, but I love that, so it's not bothersome at all.
Alrighty, Maddox out for now.
Fuzzy Mother-in-Law Musings
Whenever I spend some time with Jan, it's always therapeutic to complain about her afterward. So, if you don't feel like listening to me bitch for this entire entry, read no further. Getting it out helps my state of mind, though.
OK, the woman is nutso. Granted, she was less annoying than usual tonight, but she just grates on me. First, Tony had borrowed Jim and Jan's truck to pick up something earlier today and he still had the truck, so we drove separately to Max & Erma's to meet J&J for dinner. Tony got there before me, and apparently, J&J did, too. So, I get Cameron out of the car and we start walking toward the restaurant entrance...kinda slow, because Cam has to take in all the sights, examine how much noise his shoes are making on the pavement, etc...when I look up and find Jan, coming toward us across the parking lot with her arms stretched out. Like she couldn't wait until we got to the sidewalk to greet Cam? And I say Cam, because she didn't say hi to me - obviously, I'm not the focus of her attention. Which is quite fine by me! So anyway, there she is with her arms outstretched, and Cam continues to walk, holding onto my hand. Snicker, snicker...bad, but pretty funny, if you ask me! So then we stand outside for a few, waiting for our table to be ready. I gave her some pictures from Cam's photo shoot. (I totally HAVE to interrupt my story to tell you this. I loved the results of the photo session so much that I got gobs of packages, so we had a lot of 8x10s, 5x7s and wallets to go around. Tony called Jan last night and asked her to look at the pictures on maddoxdirect, and tell us which poses she liked best. She said - get this - well, I'm glad you are letting me choose this time, because you NEVER give me the pose I like. She actually said that! What a BITCH! The nerve! Um, shut up! They are free - it's not like you are paying for them! And she did complain with his 10-month portraits that we didn't give her the one where he was "standing." She said at the time, "well, why would I want a picture of him sitting when he can stand?" Geez, so we automatically gave her the standing pose thereafter. Apparently that hasn't been good enough. ANYWAY. So, back to my story. I gave her the pictures, and she asked Cam if he wanted to take them to her car with her. I didn't even say anything, make a face or even look her way, and she said, "oh, well no. You better stay here with your Mommy." First of all, Daddy was standing there too. Second of all, why even make that comment? She grabbed his hand and took him to her car anyway. Whatever, not that I ever had a problem with it. They did stay gone forever, but that's beside the point. They come back, stand for like 2 more minutes and then they disappear again. (the woman has some sort of obsession with spending time alone with Cam. She doesn't like to share him with anyone - even at family gatherings like birthday parties). While they are gone on the second marathon walk, our table becomes ready. So, Tony has to tromp off to find them, wherever they may have gone.
Here's something else. Jan is not a fashionable person. I don't hold that against her. I'm not a trendy chica myself. But Jan is just downright...um....dowdy and tacky most of the time. She wears jeans that are at least 2 sizes too small and looks pregnant much of them time. And her tops are either t-shirts or sweatshirts advertising like Myrtle Beach or something. Or, like tonight, very old (think 1985) and very faded and very short. So there she is, looking outdated and sloppy, when she reaches down and starts fussing with Cam's top! The bottom hem had flipped up a bit and she, I guess, thought he looked improper and had to adjust it! Um, OK! Hello! Have you consulted with a full-length mirror lately?
The dinner was rather uneventful, but not without her usual nuances. Like whenever Cam did something bad, like slam his cup into a plate, and I corrected him, she tried to distract him from the situation. Like, what I was saying wasn't important for him to hear. She asked if Cam ever got to sleep this afternoon and I said yes, but I had to wake him up to come here, so that's why he might be a little cranky. She discounted that by saying, "oh, he's always in a good mood." (Boy, he showed her what a real good mood is with a few temper flare-ups!) About his sleeping situation, she said, "well, if he was over at my house, I could have put down a pallet and I would have gotten him to sleep." (FYI - pallet = blanket on floor, if you didn't know that. I didn't, until I met Jan.) So, apparently, I'm a shit mother (and Tony's a shit father) because we couldn't get Cameron to nap and she would have done much, much better with a blanket on the floor. HAHAHAHAHA. Sure.
Here's the best part of the evening - and I missed it! Tony and I decided to meet at Lowe's to look for a new kitchen light fixture, since ours kind of got broken when Tony took it down to paint the ceiling. Cam and I said our goodbyes and left in our car. Tony still had J&J's truck and it was parked near their car. He said, when he got back to the truck/their car that Jan said, "Is she going to Lowe's BY HERSELF?" Tony told her that he's meeting us there. She was like, "but she has the baby!" As if I can't travel by myself to Big Bad Lowe's without Tony? Imagine if she knew helpless little me can actually shop - with Cam and all - with NO COMPANION AT ALL! Isn't that a kick? Tony pointed out that Jan can't go anywhere sans Jim, so we really shouldn't be surprised.
OK. Well, those are my Jan Complainings. Maybe the stuff that bothers me seems small and lame. Probably, if others said/did some of the stuff she does, it wouldn't bother me as much, but she's my mother-in-law, so I have a right to be annoyed! Right? Right.

Trying to pass the time...
Feeling bored, yet antisocial. I have tons of threads to catch up with on my message board, but for some reason am feeling anti-message board lately. However, I'm bored, bored, bored! I have a little man who won't nap. I put him down at his usual time and he jabbered on and on. I got him back up lots and lots later, fed him lunch and have just put him back to bed once more. I really hope he'll fall asleep soon. Tony borrowed Jan & Jim's truck to go pick up Cam's birthday present from Toys R Us (it's a climber/slide toy for the backyard). We're supposed to meet Jan & Jim for dinner around or before 5pm. It's about 2:30 now, so I hope he gets his nap going soon. I still need a shower!! I'm tired of looking at various websites, have nothing to read (I hate that!) and have no desire to watch TV.
Amy's getting married at the Venetian in Vegas on August 20th. We plan to go out on the 19th (Cam included) but haven't decided whether to come home on the 21st or the 22nd. And we can't decide where to stay. All of the hotels quote a bazillion different prices every day. I guess we need to get on the ball, though. I know Mom wants to coordinate her plans with ours, and I know she is itching to stay the extra day. Decisions, decisions!
I took Cameron to The Picture People yesterday for Tony's surprise father's day pictures. It was such a success! It was just an awesome experience. I don't think Cam even realized he was getting his picture taken - he was just flirting and showing off for the photographer. She was the best. She danced with him, sang to him, acted silly and really kept his attention. The cool thing about TPP is they take the pictures with the subjects on the ground. So Cam didn't have to stand/sit on an elevated box-type thing. He hated that about J.C. Penney...he's start to fuss and get agitated when we'd lift him up to put him on the box. Anyway, the shots came out looking terrific and I bought just tons of them. Spent way way way too much, but I couldn't help myself. It was my first time! Check them out here. Click 'Next>>' to see them all. (note: it just took me 15 minutes to figure out how to make a big old link just say "here" - let's hope it worked!
Little guy still not asleep. Tony's back with the climber. I'm still dirty. And bored. Fitting that the entry should end as it began, no? Cheers.

I heart air conditioning
Ahhhhh, cool air! We got our air conditioner fixed this morning. It's really starting to cool off in here now. Thank God! We were completely out of refrigerant, which means we probably have a leak. The technician seems to think it is a small leak, so I didn't pay to have this spendy dye test done to see where the leak is. Trust me, the refrigerant and "labor" cost enough. The guy said a normal a/c unit has a 10-15 year life. Ours has to be older than that. But he thinks ours should get us through the summer. One can only hope! All I know is I won't be taking our lovely a/c for granted any time soon. It bites big ones when you blow your hair out and 10 minutes later it's soaked and curly again! I feel so horribly for people who don't have a/c, especially the elderly. I honestly don't know how someone with breathing problems could take this 90+ degree weather.
My sister got engaged this past Friday! AND she is getting married in Las Vegas (where all the really cool people wed) this summer after they move to Portland! We are going dress shopping today. I'm so excited for her. I just hope C-note behaves himself while we look at the gowns.
OK, well, I'm off to rewet and dry my hair. I didn't even bother drying it this morning. Later Gators.

Whiner
Ugh, this is going to be a whiney entry. Sorry in advance.
We think the air conditioning isn't working. Yesterday was the first time we turned it on this season. It wasn't cooling the house at all. By like 10pm, Tony said it was so bad that he had to open the windows. So this morning, he did some stuff to the a/c unit outside and we turned it on again. It's been on since 9:15 and it's not cool in here at all. Blah. I'll have to call the heating and cooling people tomorrow, we'll have to get on a service call list (since I'm sure they are swamped) and we'll have to shell out megabucks to either A) get the a/c fixed or B) get a whole new unit! I pray it's not B....but I think the central air unit/box thing outside is the original. I mean, I don't think it was installed when the house was built in the 1960s, but I think it is the only unit the house has ever had. Looks pretty antiquey! Triple ugh.
Another whine. Cam's big boy toddler bed is in his room now. He's lain on it a few times and seems pretty happy to have it. He slept in his crib last night. For his nap today, we got his Baby and Wags the Dog and went in his room. He wanted to sleep on his big boy bed, so I let him. After I shut the door, I realized it's probably not safe to have him cribless since we have a standing fan in there and the plug below where the fan was plugged in was uncovered. So, I went back in and put one of those big safety/cover-the whole outlet things on it. Cam got out of his bed and started crying. I tried to put him in the crib, but he was wailing at that point. So we went out into the living room and sat and cuddled and talked. Anytime I mentioned napping, he'd do his pitiful cry some more. So eventually, Tony put him in his crib and laid down on the floor next to him. He calmed down and was fine until Tony left the room, and the crying resumed. Finally, he fell asleep. But I don't know what he was so afraid of or sad about! All I know is I hope it was a one-off thing.
Man, it's hot in here. Cam and I are going to my Mom's for dinner and I really can't wait to get into her cool house. It's supposed to be 88 today and around 85 all next week. Tony says he's staying home to finish painting the dining room/kitchen trim. He's working on it now. I don't see how it will ever dry in this oven. It's so humid and sticky. Maybe he'll finish what he can by 3:00 and go with us or meet us there. He totally needs a break from this heat. Boy, we are wimps!
Another thing. We want out of this house/neighborhood in a big way. A few things are holding us back, though. We have several things to do/improve upon with this house before we can list it. Some cosmetic things, like paining and decluttering the basement. Other more involved things like pulling out the basement floor coverings and redoing them. The basement is semi-finished. I mean, I don't count it as a living area, because it's not even close to nice. One part of the basement has green indoor/outdoor carpet and has paneling on the walls. Drop ceiling with fluorescent lights. The other part has vinyl floor tiles ("the dog's room" - where the dogs hang out when we're not home). There has been water damage in there, so the tiles are warped and the wood subfloor is damaged. The rest of the basement is laundry room. Just a concrete floor. I don't think we'll do anything major in there - just lots of decluttering. It's very basementy in our basement. Oh and our half bath in the master bedroom....Tony and I started remodeling it in 2000. It's still not complete. First of all the drywall seams are showing already. I guess we were bad tapers/mudders! So we have to somehow repair that. Second, the whole bathroom needs molding and trim still.
Another thing holding us back is $$$. We want a 4-bedroom home that doesn't need to be remodeled. I don't know if we can afford that with our income/debt situation. And that bites. I mean, I don't know for sure, but I think we'd be looking at lower-priced houses. Which probably means we could get the amount of space we want, but the fixtures/bathrooms ect would need to be updated. Sorry, but been there, done that already with this house and I don't want to do it again! Blah Blah Blah.
OK, I am sick of listening to myself complain, so I'm going to try to find something else to do. I'd love to get a cool shower, but I'm afraid I'll wake up the sleeping C-note.

Hope you like photos...
Cameron's haircut went very, extremely, extraordinarily, fantastically well! He was such a good boy again! All the ladies at the salon commented on what a good little guy he was. Here are some makeover shots of the C-man:
Before:

Curls all gone - after!

So, the haircut went awesome and we love the results. Now, the photo sitting a couple hours later - that's a whole different story. It was awful. Dreadful. We didn't even get one picture in. We had to reschedule for Monday evening. Maybe we'll get better results then, I hope. Cam was just not having any of it. Tony met us there and I think part of the reason Cam refused to cooperate was because he just wanted to hang out with Daddy. Monday, if Tony goes, he is going to come home first and we'll all go to the studio together, so Cameron already has his Dad Fix in before picture time. Who knows - it may just be the age, and we might not be able to get professional pictures in this time. I can always take some decent shots at home and have them printed professionally in 8x10s and give them to the hungry family members.
Well, guess what? Today, I went to get my hair trimmed and my brows waxed. Guess I was feeling risky and saucy, because I got bangs! No kidding! I haven't had bangs since big front mall-poofs were cool (but were they really ever?) It was pretty dramatic after my stylist cut them, but it got less so as she was drying my hair. I'll wear them over to the side, so they won't be in my face, but they still will add some interest (?) to my "style." I took some pictures of myself, cut you can't really see the difference! Well, I'll have Tony click some shots for me after I get dressed for the wedding I'm going to with Mom tonight. OK. In the meantime, here's my nakey belly from today:

And clothed:

Only for you, my adoring fans. (puke) Have a sweet Saturday!

Lids Down!
OK, here's the thing: I'm a toilet lid down kind of girl. We have dogs, a toddler and I just think the lid belongs right there, resting on the seat. Now, if you leave yours up - hey, that's fine, too. It's your house, right? My problem is when people use MY potty and leave MY lid up! (ahem, ahem, Mother-in-law, ahem) I just don't understand why you wouldn't leave the lid how you found it, you know?
Jan babysat Cam last night, while we were at Amy's birthday dinner at The Melting Pot (which was so much fun and I think everyone really enjoyed themselves - score!). I wrote a note detailing dinner time, bedtime, etc. Tony read highlights from the note outloud to Jan, because he knew she wouldn't read it. She barely paid attention to anything he was saying. I don't know why we even bother. Of course, when we got home, Cam's shades weren't pulled down (Tony was right - she didn't read the note). Luckily, I was able to sneak in there and pull them down without waking him. I'd just love to know what went on there while we were gone. Another odd thing - every window in the house was closed and locked when we got home. It was burning up in there! Strange. She was also eager to hightail it out of there, too. She usually lingers forever while we yawn and yawn. She may have still been mad at Tony for "insulting" her intelligence. He had asked her if she MINDED fixing a grilled cheese for Cam and she replied (nastily), "well I guess I know how to make a grilled cheese...I HAVE done it before!" I'm just glad I'm not the one who asked! Not that I would anymore - I learned my lesson and really don't say anything to her regarding Cameron. She thinks I'm telling her what to do and gets all defensive. Whatever. No wonder Tony doesn't trust her to babysit.
Cam has a haircut appointment today at 3:30. Luckily, he's napping now. I'll get a shower while he sleeps, get his outfit out of the dryer (and iron the top, if necessary - and I suspect it will be), pack his bag and be all ready to feed and bathe him when he wakes up. Then at 5:20 we have his photo sitting at JC Penney. I hope he's in a good mood. I guess I'll dress him in just a regular old t-shirt and take his button-up shirt with us to the mall and he can change into it there. He's good at getting his clothes messy and has been a drooling fool lately because of those molars.
Ugh, my stomach is kind of upset today. I'm sure it is the result of the massive quantities of food I consumed last night! Not that I regret it, though. OK, time to get busy while the lion sleeps.

All about CMM
So, the other day, Cameron pulled the baskets from under his changing table and handed me a big dust/hair bunny and said, "dust." Where the hell did he learn that word? Now I'm in trouble! Tony said it was probably from his mom, telling C that our house was dusty and filthy. She did go on and on (to our faces, nonetheless) about how filthy our window screens were this past Fall, and how she wouldn't let Cam touch them while she babysat one night. Thanks, Lovely Mother-in-law: The woman whose house is caked in a protective layer of dust! The grandmother who won't have us over because she's just too busy/tired/depressed to clean. Anyway...
Cam is currently obsessed with my hair. He gets upset when I pull it back and totally prefers it to be down so he can hold it in his hand and say, lovingly, "hair." He's even started stoking it. Do I have a future hair dresser on my hands? Or is this some kind of Oedipal fetish? Hopefully not - since he digs Daddy's hair, too...just not to the extent that he loves mine. Not that my hair is anything special, mind you! It usually looks a mess.
Food update: C-note will now eat raw baby carrots! Like, really eat and munch them. Not just gnaw on the end for a few seconds. Another vegetable to add to his (quaint) repertoire.
We are planning Cam's 2nd birthday party. The theme is Blue's Clues, since he really likes that show. I figured we'd better do Blue's Clues this year, since the show has been cancelled and I don't know if party stuff will be available in the coming years. I have almost all of the invites written out and addressed and hope to send 'em out later this week. I need some stamps, so a trip to the post office (the bane of my existence) is soon in order. I am hoping for the best weather possible, because we really need the outdoor space to accommodate our guests. We bought a 10 x 10 open-sided canopy thing to put in the backyard, since our covered patio is never big enough. We'll have the kiddie pool, Cam's new climber/slide toy (his present from us), cornhole and perhaps badminton, if we're feeling adventurous.
Cameron gets his 2nd ever haircut this Friday. It's gotten to be pretty messy again, with random curls and waves all about. Yep, they're all getting chopped off. Don't worry, though - they'll grow right back in less than like 2 weeks! He must get his uncontrollable hair from me. Of course, I think Tony's hair has the potential to be the same way...not that we'd ever know since he keeps it so short! I'm also kicking around the idea of taking C to JC Penny Friday afternoon/evening to have his 2-year pictures done. That might be too much on him, though. Haircut and pictures in the same day...we'll see. I'd really love to take to The Picture People closer to his actual birthday and get the pictures back that same day, but alas, we cannot afford those prices.
