Moooooo

Seriously, we have got to get out of this neighborhood. Just now, as I'm sitting at my computer, a car pulls up in front of the house next door. Playing music. Not the radio, but like electronic nursery rhymes. Row Row Row Your Boat, It's a Small World, cow mooing sounds, a rooster. You get the picture.

I have been working my ass off cleaning today, and really don't have much to show for it. I unloaded the clean dishes from the dishwasher, loaded it with dirty dishes, ran it, and unloaded it again. I made iced tea. I cleaned the living room in a big way - even vacuumed the couches. I washed, dried and hung/folded a load of casuals and a load of towels. The whites are in the dryer and Tony's work clothes are in the washer. I made reservations for Amy's birthday dinner for Thursday night. I picked up Cam's toys and books 75 times. I cleaned the dining room table off 3 times. I still need to clean the kitchen counters and swiffer in there. And Cam is really resenting all this. He is throwing fit after fit and I think it's because Mom isn't paying the amount of attention to him that he's used to. This last fit, he just looked so exhausted, so I asked him if he wanted to go lie down with his Baby. He nodded and led me into his bedroom. And not two minutes later, the car with the ice cream truck tunes pulls up blasting its cheer and barnyard animal sounds. Yip. Oh, and also, cleaning hurts my butt. I think I pulled a muscle in my extreme lower back and all this bending makes it hurt more.

OK, just a short blog today - just wanted to complain and brag a bit.

Easing back

19 weeks today. I've had a tough couple of days - not because anything is wrong with me or the baby. I'm just really sad and shaken up by the passing of my online friend's little boy. It just doesn't feel right to talk openly about my easy life while her family has to go through such a sucky time. But, I'll ease back into sharing a little about what's going on.

We got Baby 2's bedding after the ultrasound Monday. It's called "In Flight" and we really love it and hope to get some of the matching accessories, as well. Check out the "New Baby's Bedding" link to the right if you'd like to see it. Tony had an awesome idea for painting the nursery. We're going to mimic the pattern on the dust ruffle for the walls. Tan on top, a burgundy chair rail and olive green below the rail. I think it will look super-cool! Right now, the baseboards and trim is the ugly orangey-natural wood color...we had planned to paint it white, but I'm wondering if we should do tan instead? I'm not sure. Any opinions?

Oh, to be a toddler and to think spoonfuls of ketchup, mixed with a hint of applesauce, is a delicacy! To sit for the longest time, spinning the wheels of a see-though toy train, just to watch the gears inside turn. To happily read a book, while lying naked on a too-small changing table immediately after waking:

Did you know:

Squirrels spend their entire lives in a 3- to 5-acre area?
84% of a raw apple is water?
A pineapple is really a berry?

Hope your Thursday is treating you well.

BOY, what a nice day...

It's a boy! The ultrasound went quite well. No surprises and everything is measuring right on target. Maybe I won't have a giant baby this time? Also, no placenta previa! Yippee! Check out the New Baby's Page (link on right) for ultrasound shots. Since we know the gender, we're going up to Babies R Us as soon as Cameron wakes from his nap to buy the bedding we want! And I think we're going to also register for a few things. Not that I expect anyone to buy us stuff for the new kiddo, but I know some family members will want to get us things to coordinate with his nursery and such, so I thought we'd make the info easily available to them. If it looks greedy, oh well! And, well, since we'll already be in Forest Park, we MIGHT AS WELL eat at Old Spag Factory!

Dirty nose

So, I'm official a gardener now. Sort of. This morning, Cam napped early, so Tony and I did some yardwork in front. I planted three containers for the porch and added some marigolds (aka "orangies" in my world) to a bed. I'm always afraid of planting...I think I'll do it wrong or something. But, really, there's not much to it. I guess the real challenge in gardening is upkeep. I hope we can remember to water the containers regularly. The only downside to my morning gardening experience is dirt up the nose. Yep, whenever I mess around in dirt/soil/earth, I generally get a noseful. Is this true for everyone, or am I just that lucky? Anyway, the porch and front yard look quite lovely at the moment!

Today, we are going to Amy's for Sunday dinner. We're having tacos and I'm starving, starving, starving. We need to leave in about 40 minutes and Tony is still messing around outside (putting stuff away, I hope). I just need to throw clothes on C-note and myself and the two of us are set. T, on the other hand, needs to shower, etc, etc. Luckily, he's a fast get-readier.

Tomorrow is the big day!! We get our ultrasound bright and early at 8:30! My fingers are so crossed that everything is fine. They are starting to cramp up. ;) Tony doesn't think they will be able to tell the gender tomorrow. I think he is wrong, and although I have super-strong boy feelings, I'm starting to have my doubts on that! Maybe I won't be so surprised if the tech announces, it's a girl! At this point, I'm totally open to either gender. I mean, it would be so freaking cool to have another little guy. We know all about boys now so that would be nice. However - a girl would be a totally different experience for us, too. It would be neato to buy little girly clothes (although not too frilly - I just can't get into that). And to not have to worry about penis stuff, yeah - that would be nice as well. I don't know! Either one works! We'll see tomorrow, I hope.

OK, Tony's finally in the house and showering, so I need to get us dressed. See you tomorrow after the big appointment.

Predictions, anyone?

So, you really should check out our new baby pool at http://www.maddoxdirect.com/baby2/. It's pretty cool. We basically ripped it off from a site called expectnet.com and kinda tailored it to our needs. Go ahead and record your guesses...I can't wait to see what everyone predicts! Oh, and if anyone has any trouble with the pool, or has suggestions, please let us know. We tested it a bit, but there's always something that needs to be fixed.

On a not-so-cool note, my car is getting new brakes and tires as I type. We knew it would need at least 2 tires, but weren't counting on all 4. And I asked them to check the brakes because I've noticed just recently that I have to push farther down to make the car stop. Nothing drastic, just a slight difference. Well, I'm glad I noticed it, because we need new pads and shoes. Or something like that! They said the brakes could wait until next oil change, but I'd rather them just take care of things now. We won't have any more money then than we do now, and it's better to be safe than sorry. That's what I hear, anyway.

Boy, I really want an Icee. Are Icees national (world-wide, even?) or just regional? They are like slushies, but better. In case you aren't familiar, that is. I think I'll have to get a cherry Icee tonight when we get back from my Mom's house (Tony is mowing her yard and she is feeding us dinner).

Well, SOMEONE is hungry for lunch (needy kid) so I must go. Hope you enjoy the baby pool!

Kicking and stuff

17 weeks, 5 days today! I am definitely feeling movement now! I guess it really starting being obvious just after 16 weeks (not just gas, normal digestion, etc). I'm pleased that I felt it earlier this time...with C-note I wasn't convinced it was kicking until like 19 weeks. Less than a week until our ultrasound on May 23. I'm getting very exciting, but also pretty nervous. I really hope everything is 100% ok with this baby. And no placenta previa this time, please! I'm feeling really well these days...nothing really out of the ordinary - well, besides the kicking and frequent trips to the loo.

Cameron likes to pull up my top and pull down my belly panel and kiss the baby. It's very cute (except in public)! He also likes to feed the baby goldfish crackers and water through my belly button. He's a bit of a punkerdoodle lately. Gets very frustrated very quickly. I just let him have his little fits and he moves on. He says lots and lots of words, but doesn't put them together too often. Every once in a while, you'll get a "here you go" or "no more" out of him, but it's always on his own terms. I really think his speech development is fine and am not concerned about it. I have a feeling our pediatrician will feel the same way - she's really laid back. But I guess we'll see in early July, when he goes for his 2-year check up.

Man - not much to say today! Really, not much exciting has been going on lately. I'll recount the dull details, anyway! Went to my sister-in-law's baby shower Saturday. That was nice. I'm so glad I didn't take Cam, even though other little ones were there. He would have been into everything and I totally would not have been able to relax and enjoy myself. Then Cam, Tony and I went to Old Spaghetti Factory with Amy and Shawn for dinner. We waited for a table forever, but got free cheesy bread for our trouble and had fantastic service, so it was a good experience. While we were waiting, Cameron played a game with us where he'd direct us to stand shoulder to shoulder ("close!" he'd instruct). Then he'd push us apart. I think everyone got to be really close with one another (literally!), thanks to C-note.

Sunday, we went to my aunt's confirmation mass. Well, just I went to the mass (with Amer, Mom and Shawn). Cam and Tony met us at the party after. It was sooo cold and the party was outside, but C didn't seem to mind. He had fun "riding" the tricycle my aunt bought for him at a garage sale. Riding = being pushed by anyone who was willing. I think we all had a good time, despite the crappy weather.

Well, I gots stuff to do while Cam is napping. Must pee, start a load of laundry, pay some bills, shower...things like that. See you later, alligator.

I have to admit it's getting bettah

Ok, well, yesterday's entry was kind of angry and depressing, huh? I feel better about things today. I think that the whole situation stemmed from a general lack of communication on both of our parts, and you know what happens when you let things that bother you build up without saying anything - you explode. I guess I was just exploded upon at a very inopportune time. I took it totally hard. I kind of got an apology last night. Not so much with actual words, but Tony surprised me with a dinner out at Bravo, one of my favorite Italian places - just the two of us. He said that I deserved it. I couldn't argue there! It was nice, and we talked and we listened. Cam had fun playing at Grandma Jackie's in the meantime!

Cottage cheese is my new best friend. Love the stuff. I got sick of eating so much macaroni salad, so that's now out.

I made an appointment for my first pedicure of the season for next week. I have gift certs from my birthday to use, so I'll break those babies out! Anything to make these God-awful feet and toes look more presentable, I say. I hate my feet with a passion, but it IS easier to just slip on sandals than to lace up hot, clunky tennis shoes (or gym shoes or sneakers or running shoes, take your pick). Plus I'm almost sure nobody cares much what toes look like as much as I do. Probably, everyone else is too worried about their own appearances to concentrate much on my misshapen tootsies.

Countdown to ultrasound: less than 2 weeks now! Getting excited and nervous!

Gotta go upload some photos now (found USB cable - cleaning really does produce positive results!)

My special day

Well, Mother's Day was yesterday. Not exactly the best day ever - in fact, it rather sucked until we had dinner with my Mom, sister and Shawn and then went to Stason's party to visit with Jan. Cam got me a lovely mouse pad with a picture of him on it. Very cute. I can't really say I was made to feel special or appreciated or any of that mushy mom stuff. To tell the truth, yesterday morning was the worst I've felt all year. Apparently, I am less than acceptable in the mom/wife/partner department and don't care about anything. So, on the bright side, I guess future Mother's Days have to be wonderful compared to this one. There'll be no trouble at all topping the warm glow of Mother's Day 2005.

Cam is starting to have trouble going to sleep. For the past few days/nights he's fussed, cried and carried on before falling asleep. But at least he is getting to sleep and staying there.

Cam needs a haircut. I need to get a prescription for prenatal vitamins, since my crapload of samples is finally depleted. I need to find the USB cable so I can upload the pictures from my camera, but it is MIA. Cam likes to pretend it is a leash and take imaginary dogs for walks on it, so no telling where it could be. If I were a better housekeeper, I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue.

Well, off to make myself a better person by being domestic.

Pampered Mama

Gestation update: 15 weeks, 6 days along; baby is about the size of a softball, weighing in at 2.8 ounces and four and a half inches in length. That’s about as wide as a standard piece of letter size paper folded in half lengthways, and about as heavy as two little "fun size" candy bars.

Two words for you: Pregnancy Punch. It rocks. Tony invented it when we were expecting C-note. It started out as lemonade, strawberry grenadine, crushed ice and two cherries. This time around, he has added orange juice (and an extra cherry) and it is to die for! I slurp it down in seconds. Oh yes, it's nice and sugary for me, but I don't care. I must have the Punch. Speaking of being pampered, my awesome husband made me an omelet at 11:00 the other night. If only I could get this star treatment all the time! ;)

Walter's eye doc visit last week went well. He's blind in the cataract eye, but his right eye is perfectly fine. We have drops to administer three times a day and that's going pretty well. We go back to the eye doc for a follow-up visit next week. In other Walter news, we noticed he had an icky infected cut on his lower "lip" Monday, so I took him to the regular vet yesterday. No big deal, thankfully - the vet said he probably just bit down on it with his own tooth. He's on antibiotics for the infection. Many meds for W.

Cameron is really cute and funny lately, but with that is coming some very 2-year-old behavior. He's really emotional and will cry at the drop of a hat. Like this morning, he wanted a bite of my Swiss Cake Roll, so I asked him to say "please." That set him off. He got mad and started crying. Threw himself on the couch across the room. Banged his head into the arm of the couch, then ran into the office and climbed up into the glider. He curled into a little ball and was holding his Baby, sucking his finger, crying. Finally, he got over his fit (I guess the alone time allowed him to sort his thoughts!) and asked nicely ("please") for a bite of the roll. This is typical lately. I really wonder if it's typical toddler stuff or if his teeth are just killing him. He's teething his molars pretty hard right now. He's a drooling machine these days. I can't wait until those four buggers are through - then we'll be done with teeth and drooling for a few years.

The weather is finally starting to look up again. These past cold couple of weeks have really gotten me down! I think I am a "feel the warm sun on my skin" kinda girl. It's supposed to get in the 70s and 80s starting this weekend. Luckily, I found a couple pairs of cute cropped (or capri?) maternity pants, so I don't have to wear jeans in the nice weather anymore. I have a good pair of shorts that fit, but my legs are so flabby and dimply, it's disgusting.

Well, I hate to leave that yummy image in your head, but I must jump in the shower while I have the chance. Adios!
