I didn't know it, but apparently, I have a fantastic apartment....for this section of the complex. Things I have that others don't, yet desire: a double bowl sink, yicky almond-colored appliances (I'd prefer white, but apparently these are superior?), a range that vents through the hood, rather than a fan in the wall with a chain, a fantastic tree right outside my balcony.
Also? This place is surrounded by random cars...but the nature is amazing! Squirrels all over the place. Tons of various birdies. Random cats. ;) Point is, I think I may stay here for a while. Yes, it's a sort of crappy apartment. The cabinet hardware is brass (I can buy cheapo brushed silver stuff to replace, no?); nothing is level, including the dining room floor (move the table to a more ideal area and raise the light fixture...easy); there is a stain in the commode that returns two days after a thorough cleaning (clean more often); the tub and sink get slow drains monthly (buy cheap drain cleaner monthly).
The living room is coming together. More homey decor is in my future, including red paint (as well as a brown accent wall) and a couch I don't hate. The kitchen walls will soon be adorned with a fabulous bluish-green shade. I am getting a real bed tomorrow - that's a start for the bedroom.
Yeah, this is an old building, and the walls are paper-thin. I can hear the new dog barking and whining like crazy upstairs when her parents are away....Cars come and go...The building's door slams closed regularly. I don't care. I'm used to the noises. My kids are fine with them and sleep through all the commotion (yay!). If you come to visit me, get used to it, too.
I want to feel totally at peace in my place, and I want the kids to feel at home here. It's slow, but it's unfolding. I can see an immediate future here.
