Autographs, anyone?

I will let you in on a little secret. I am musical brilliance. As a small child, I wrote and recorded a song. On my dad's reel to reel tape recorder. A tune which still lives on today, might I add. My kids love it. I think they appreciate it's simplicity, although the message is quite a powerful one, I think. I'll transcribe the lyrics here, as well as the notes, which were orignially played on an out-of-tune piano - but I think it would be fine on any treble clef instrument.

Give a dog a bone.
Feed the cat some milk.
Everybody wants to sing!

C-D-E-F-G
C-D-E-F-G
D-E-F-G-A-B-C

No sharps, no flats. All quarter notes, except the last note in each line is a half note.

4 exciting things

So! What's happening?

1. We are going to Columbus on October 29 to see Barenaked Ladies! I'm so excited. I'm SO EXCITED! Did I mention I'm excited? I really hope to stick around for the meet & greet this time, but it'll be late and we'll have a two-hour drive home to relieve my sister, who's babysitting the boys.

2. We are also seeing BNL in Cincinnati on November 17! How cool is that? Twice in one tour. You see, the Columbus pre-sale tickets went on sale before the Cincinnati show was even announced. I couldn't miss the opportunity, and how was I to know they'd be coming to Cincy as well? It would be more ideal to meet the band after the show here, but I've heard U.S. Bank Arena security makes that impossible.

3. I'm planning Luke's first birthday party! I'm just in a world of denial about my littlest man turning one. How could it be, already? His party is on October 7th. Invites went out last week, and I've spent the morning figuring out what food, decorations, favors, ect. we need for the party. There isn't really a theme, but we'll stick with like two primary colors. His invitation has blue, lime green, yellow and orange on it. I think we'll go with blue and lime green. I love having birthday parties for these guys!

4. Cam loves preschool! He started September 5th and goes Tuesdays and Thursdays. He's totally into the routine at school. It's really cute. He started with a cold and fever last Thursday afternoon. He's still congested, has a runny nose and is coughing, so he probably won't be allowed to go to school tomorrow. That sucks. I'll call in the morning, but I'm pretty certain they'll ask me to keep him home if he's still coughing/nosey. I REALLY hope he's all better by Thursday, for sure. They are going on a field trip to Sunrock Farm Thursday. I'll feel awful if he doesn't get to go.

OK, well, Maddox Out. I need to get some laundry started and clean up the kitchen/dining room. As usual.

Thumbs down on these

Wanna know what makes me mad?

When I bust my bum to clean the bathroom for your visit, and you don't even step foot in there! So, please, if you come over, use my bathroom! At least wash your hands or something. Unless you show up unannounced...then your best bet is to avoid the bathroom altogether.

Children's Place doesn't have cute clothes anymore! At least, not in Cameron's size. And not for the holidays, either. I just "sneak-peeked" at the Holiday collection, and it all sucks. For both boys. I used to love that darn place!

Cleaning the kitchen/dining room 3 times a day, and I still wake up to a mess in there!

freakonomics

Here's a quick, stream-of-consciousness review of a book I recently read, Freakonomics:

freakonomics - overwritten. Big words and lots of filler/repetition. somewhat interesting. annoying mostly, although some of the "stories" were interesting. Lead-in reviews to each chapter touting Levitt's amazingness and brainiac status were too much. I don't feel any more enlightened after reading this book. Don't waste your time.

Men.

Why do guys have buddies? Luke and I were just eating breakfast a First Watch, after dropping Cam off at school, and a guy across the way was telling the server about one of his "buddies." Girls never have buddies. We have friends. Do buddies = friends? Or are buddies closer friends? Acquaintances? If a guy has a girl who is a friend, is she a buddy, too? I'm so confuseled.

What? Nap on a Monday?

What I could/should be doing:

- uploading photos to maddoxdirect.com (it's been over a month!)
- taking a shower
- unloading the dishwasher
- laundry
- cleaning dining room table
- paying bills
- cleaning our bedroom

What I am doing instead:

Listening to Luke carry on in his room (in bed, sometimes whining, sometimes crying, making crazy noises the rest of the time). He slept a whole 35 minutes after I put him down this afternoon. Then he cried and cried, so I gave in and nursed him FOREVER, put him back down and he has been playing and carrying on ever since. Wait, now he's standing up and shouting at the door.

I'd love a shower.

Driving Hazard

Oh my god. I just have to get this off my chest. I cannot stand to see feet where feet do not belong. Such as, pressed against a car's windshield or door window. I think it's just disgusting to be driving along, glance over and have to see someone's gnarly foot all distorted and smooshed against a window. I mean, first of all, is being a passenger in a car so uncomfortable that you have to 1) take off your shoes, and 2) elevate your legs and feet to the oh-so-ottoman-like dashboard? According to my friend, Wikipedia,

"many different things are mounted on dashboards. The most important items located on the dashboard are the steering wheel and the instrument cluster. An instrument cluster contains instrument gauges such as a speedometer, tachometer, odometer, and fuel gauge. The top of a dashboard usually contains speakers for the audio system, and vents for the heating and A/C system. A glovebox is often found on the passenger side. In more modern cars, automotive navigation systems are mounted in the dashboard."

Note that "bare feet" are not included in the list of instruments or features of the typical auto. Anyway, how comfortable can it be to hike your legs all of the way up there to begin with? Do your limbs not fall asleep after a while? Man, this one really bothers me. It's gross. It's weird. It's a freaking eyesore.
