What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?
This is easy. And features my ex. He's a great guy. Or was. Or is. I dunno. I guess he's a great guy in another dimension now. But, in this memory, he's a great guy, for certain. His grandpa had just passed away, and we were cleaning out his grandpa's apartment. His great-grandmother also lived in the same apartment complex. She invited us over for some chocolate pie she had made. She was old. And maybe didn't quite remember how to make chocolate pie. All I can say is this: it was not chocolate pie. In any way, shape , or form. The texture...was geletanous.. It so wasn't right. As in make-you-gag-as-soon-as-it-entered-your-mouth not right. That guy, he ate all of his pie...plus 4/5 of mine. Despite it's nastiness. For this, I'll always admire him...in some strange way. That pie was the weirdest thing I've ever eaten, by far. Poor old people, who used to know how to bake. Poor me, who had to eat it. And poor ex, who maned up and did the right thing. That time.

I have a good pie story as well.
My MIL makes a pineapple cream pie for her boys every year at Christmas. It's something they really look forward to. A couple of years ago, the boys loaded up their plates, all excited for their favorite holiday pie. They all simultaneously took a bite, and all made a similar gross-out face.
The middle boy said, "Mom, this doesn't taste right. So instead of acknowledging him, she yells across the room to me, "Mel, you've made your own pineapple before, right?" I couldn't respond with anything but a confuzzled look on my face.
She goes on to explain her method of making her own pineapple. Her "recipe" is to dice up zucchini and boil it in pineapple juice. Voila, bonafide homemade pineapple!
