This is kinda just for my reference,

but feel free to read. I'm sure 99.9% of you will have no idea what it's about.

My initial impressions of All In Good Time, song by song.

You Run Away: B-
Maybe I'm just sick of this song at this point. It's the one I've heard the most. I think this track, like the rest of the album, is overproduced. Enjoyed it much more live. Live gets a B+.

Summertime: C
Meh. It's ok.  I'd like it a lot better without the synthesizer stuff (not that I'm anti-synth; I just don't think it fits here) and the weird guitar techniques.  I have no idea what the hell I'm talking about, but the guitar sounds all late 70s.

Another Heartbreak: A
I actually like this song a whole lot.  I've turned into more of a Kevin Hearn fan over the past year. It's just the style of music I'm digging lately. Which is funny, because I used to cringe at Kevin's voice. I KNOW this song rocks in the rockin' parts more live.  On the album, it's a little - ok a lot - smooth for my taste.

Four Seconds: C
I don't like it.  However, I appreciate it.  It's catchy. Lyrics are clever-ish.  It's experimental, but it's goofy.  Much better live, again. Too many bells and whistles and crap in the studio. Someone on a BNL message board described it as a cross between "Zydeco and traditional Greek music..."   Yeah, that's about right.

On the Lookout: D
Ok, Jim has a lovely voice, but this is just easy-listening crap to me.  Plus, with its jazzy feel, what's up with the weird sound effects?  Out of place.  What are they doing?

Ordinary: A
I like this. Bluegrassy-ish. I actually know nothing about album production, as much as I talk about things sounding "too smooth" or whatever.  But this one doesn't seem as "produced" as the rest of the album.  It feels more real to me.  Like.

I Have Learned: B-
A nice little rocker.  Doesn't bowl me over or anything.

Every Subway Car: C+
It's hard to know how I feel about this song.  I'm not a huge fan of this one.  However, it's stuck in my head like the plague.  There are elements of it that I like, and it's these elements that are playing and replaying in my head. The lyrics are good.

Jerome: C
Appreciate the Kevin-ness of it.  It's just about two minutes too long. (ouch)

How Long: C
Meh. Chorus is fine. Ed's voice seems strained a lot, otherwise.  Has nice elements of rockingness toward the end.

Golden Boy: A
I like it.  Poppy.  Good lyrics.  Gee, wonder what this one's about?!  Solid song.

I Saw It: F A I L
Snore. Jim's voice just drones on and on.  All that long phrasing. Gah.  It's a soothing voice - I really don't dislike Jim.  I just don't like his songs on this album.  At all.

The Love We're In: C- -
Dislike these lyrics. Boring song. A little vomy.

Watching the Northern Lights: D
Blah, what a crap way to end an album.  Boring.

Having a very hard time with this album, and the band as well.  I'm glad I only bought tickets to one concert in May.  Not sure I dig the direction the band is taking.  Keeping my mind and ears open, though.
