A story

Sometimes it's hard to know who to trust. At least now I trust myself. I'm going to write a little story for you about trust:

Tom and Marcia, the main characters in this tale, told each other they wanted to play fair. They aren't friends and do not respect each other, but since they are in the same class together at school, decided that they would come up with an agreement together, a compromise to make both of them happy. The agreement said stuff like: Marcia gets to play with the blocks for x amount of time, and then she'll clean them up. And Tom will stay off the monkey bars while Marcia is on them. You know, just certain terms to make sharing toys and such less messy.

So, they painstakingly put differences in opinions and communication strategies aside and came up with said agreement. Tom said he would give a copy to his mommy, and then his mommy would call Marcia's mommy to discuss. Well, Marcia's mommy got the call, alright. But the agreement presented to Marcia's mommy was all different from the original. Marcia's mommy is furious.

Marcia is confused. She doesn't know who to trust. Should she trust Tom? He's done untrustworthy things in the past, but something tells her he's not out to get her. Should she even trust her mommy? Is her mommy twisting things around, or did Tom's mommy alter the agreement to help Tom "get ahead?" You know how mommies can be.

Marcia is frustrated. She wants people to be straight with her, and not play dirty. She doesn't understand angles and agendas and motives. At least she knows she can trust herself. She's pretty smart for a schoolgirl, so she's gonna study hard and do her research on a few things. She's going to stand up for herself, and her toys, and not let mommies and untrustworthy "friends" sway her.

Sometimes school is hard.
