Having trouble relating

Okay, I'm a mom. A dedicated mom. I'm a good person, although I do have a dark side. Overall, though, I'd say I'm one of the good guys. Now, imagine I was a male. A father. I haven't seen my young adult son in years, because I've gone completely to the dark side. I'm evil. But it's pretty much evident that I still have love for my son. There's a bond. We are both highly skilled and trained. There's this force. So, when I finally do meet up with my son, how can I cut his hand off? I don't get it? I know I'm dark. I'm bad. How can I cut my son's hand off, and then invite him to join with me and rule the dark side together, as father and son? I mean, I just severed his hand! Yeah, it's drama-filled, but I just don't think that's realistic.

Too much time on ones hands, think I.

Well, maybe you want him to have something in common with you. Maybe you got your hand cut off when you were young... just speculating, of course.

Or maybe when you were a young man, you were tempted by a creepy-voiced old man to be all dark & scary. You didn't have any positive male role models, so you didn't know that you weren't supposed to be dark, you just thought "Hey, this is the way it's supposed to be".
