And it's been a long December...(so sue me - I like Counting Crows)

So, here I am right now: having some me-time, drinking some coffee (I do that now, sometimes), reading some blogs. Yesterday, Claire was feeling very rotten and was attached to me just about all day long.

She's had a rough few weeks. First, at her her 18-month appointment, we learned she had an ear infection. No surprise, since she had a cold for like ever and was pulling on her ear. So she got some Amoxicillin, which she thinks is yummy. She was still pulling on her ear after the 10 days of pink stuff, so I took her back to the doctor. Two ear infections this time. She gets Omnicef this time and we are excited, because it's a 5-day course, two doses a day. After she gets three doses of the stuff, she wakes up one evening, scratching the life out of her scalp, face and neck. She's apparently allergic to Omnicef. So, we stop giving her that, start her on Benedryl for two days and are prescribed Azithromycin (is that how you spell it? It's the Z-pack stuff, where you take a mega-dose on the first day and then regular doses the next four days). She's still pulling on both ears after her last dose of THAT, so I take her back to the doctor. One ear is still infected; fluid is behind the other one. Now she is in the middle of a ten-day course of Augmentin, aka: massive blowout inducer. She's been really cranky this week. I hope the fourth time is the charm!

Despite the ear infections, diarrhea, and multiple outfit changes, we had a nice Christmas. We went to my Aunt's on Christmas Eve. Opened Santa gifts her on Christmas morning. Hosted Christmas brunch with my mom, Amy, Shawn, and Rowan. Then visited with Mike & Brenda Christmas night. Claire had a phantom puke on the way home from M&B's. Got all over the carseat straps and chest clips. I think that's the first time in three kids we've had a throw-up in that carseat! That's kind of amazing. Friday, we had Jan, Stason, Riley and Finn over for appetizers, soup and gifts. That night, both Cam and Luke vomited twice. So. Lots of activity!

We are supposed to have our family picture and Claire's 18- (now 19-) month picture taken this afternoon. The appointment was originally for like three weeks ago, but due to all the crazy illness, we've had to reschedule three times. Everyone looks good and is in good spirits, so it might actually happen today. Wish us luck.

I think I might work on getting a load of pictures off my camera, so look for updates on our Picasa Album soon.

Have you tried the probiotics to help with the diarrhea with antibiotics? Olivia just had an ear infection too and I gave her probiotics and she hasn't had any stomach pains. Also, Jason just got me some Graeter's ice cream. I decided to go with strawberry chocolate chip. I can't wait to dig into it!

OMG, sounds like a fantastic holiday was had by all. Seriously, I'm sorry the kids were sick and poor Claire! I hope she's on the mend.

Oh man, Omnicef gives Reid "water poop" as he calls it. He ain't whistling dixie, it gives it to him bad! Weird how stuff affects different kids, Augmentin doesn't affect him at all.

And thought you'd like to know that my word captcha says "ourgi." Is that a word play for "our orgy" or something?
