Holiday weekend

We survived Thanksgiving again this year. Not my favorite holiday - I guess I just don't get it. Yeah, a time to be thankful, but why not be thankful all year? I'm not a huge fan of a lot of the food associated with Thanksgiving...don't like stuffing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie (or any pie for that matter), corn bread, or sweet potatoes in any form. Turkey's pretty good, and I like other "traditional" sides, but oh well. We went to Lexington to Tony's aunt's house on Thursday. Got lost for a bit, then found the neighborhood. Claire was sick and coughed and whined my name pretty much the whole way down. It was nice...nice people, easy times, no drama (opposite of my family?). Ride back up was okay for the first 20 minutes, but then Claire woke up and I had to climb back there to sit by her and distract her discomfort.

Yesterday, we had dinner at my mother-in-law's place. Just the five of us and her. It wasn't bad...I expected more drama and unease. A soon as we got there, Tony took the kids to her lower lever (rec room? family room?) so I was stuck with her in the kitchen for like 2 hours. She baked a turkey breast and then microwaved each of a horde of frozen sides. It went like this:
-stick undercooked turkey in oven.
-put broccoli in microwave for 20 minutes. Complain about how long it takes to microwave.
-take broccoli out of microwave, put on counter. Put carrots in microwave.
-take carrots out of microwave, put on counter. Put corn in microwave.
-take corn out of microwave, put on counter. Put mashed potatoes in microwave.
-take potatoes out of microwave, put on counter. Put macaroni and cheese in microwave.
-take macaroni and cheese out of microwave. Take turkey out of oven and attempt to slice.
-complain that she doesn't have any strength and then summon Tony to do it.
-wonder why all of the sides are cold.
We only stayed like 1/2 hour after dinner, since Claire was getting cranky and Tony was itching to leave.

Today, we are going to put up the Christmas tree, I think. Tony's in the garage, working on paining an old desk for Cam's room. I'm working on being lazy. The boys straightened up the living and play rooms, so I need to dust and vacuum, then I guess we'll be ready to get the decorations out. I'm sure it will end up being a two-day deal.

And we're having chili for dinner, which I'm really excited about. If I ever get any tasks in my google queue, I'll work. Maybe I'll do some online credit card holiday shopping, since we're poor from multiple car repairs. I really wasn't planning on charging Christmas, but what can you do? I guess that's what income tax refunds are for...paying off Christmas. And for getting fixed (I think). And for getting glasses/contacts (my vision is suffering). And for whatever else we'll happen to "need" at the time.
