LJ's appointment

So, Luke had his gastro specialist appointment Tuesday. The ice made it messy, but not too bad. Worst part was my mom's street and sidewalk. Anyway, things went smoothly. The nurses and doctor were all very friendly and Luke was cooperative, although he gave them all his best grumpy face. The doctor said Luke's stool story is "probably" this: he was first constipated, which caused the diarrhea (so much solid stools in rectum that only the juicy stuff could get by)....we gave him the stool softener, which got rid of the solid blockage. Then, apparently, he "probably" had a series of viruses which caused more diarrhea. And we continued to mess with his dosage of Miralax (along with more visits to the pediatrician) to see what would make his poops normal. And his current state of diarrhea is the result of the Miralax.

I don't buy this virus theory, by the way.

So, they've got him off the Miralax and on 3 grams of fiber supplement a day. We are to make sure he gets 10 grams (including the supplement) of fiber everyday.

It's been 2.5 days and his poop is still LOOOOOOOSE. But he's only had one movement a day the last two days.

Here's the thing. The people were all nice and all, but they acted like (in my eyes, anyway) that we were whining about his behavior, since he OBVIOUSLY got way more obnoxious when we weaned him from the Miralax, or gave him a lower dose. The doctor said, "he's going to have fits. It's his personality." Like we're stupid and don't know that. I'm not trying to blame his temperament on his bowels. I'm not looking for excuses. I just think it's notable that his behavior and his belly seem to really be connected. His pediatrician does, too. So, that kind of irked me.

Anyway, whatever. I just hope he gets back to normal. His behavior has been ok the last two days...pretty testy, but he's also teething his molars (which sucks the big one).

That's our story.

I hope that does take care of it. But you're the mom and you probably know whether all his issues were caused by virus'. Sometimes it's just too easy for medical profs to blame things on a virus. On the other hand sometimes that's the best explanation there is.

Either way I hope Luke's pooping issues are corrected.
