Loud/not loud?

Listening to: Looking at the World From the Bottom of a Well by Mike Doughty

Still bleeding, substantially. It's been 12 days. It's getting old, but I'm trying to be patient.

If you are a parent, how often do you raise your voice at your children? I was watching the Today Show this morning, and they were talking about resolutions. The expert on there was explaining that we should make specific, quantifiable resolutions instead of broad ones that we'll never keep. As an example, he suggested noting how many times you raise your voice at your kids in a week, and then aim for a lower number the next week. So, he said if you did it 4 times one week, you should try to only yell 3 times next week. What? At first I thought, "holy crap, I am awful! I'm lucky if I only raise my voice 4 times in one day." Then I thought, "I wonder if this guy has ever had a toddler or a preschooler?" Now I'm wondering if I really am awful. At least it's gotten me paying attention to how much I yell and my tone in general. Really, though, I'd appreciate any comments about the voice-raising in your home.

i raise my voice a lot! I have to, because they tune me out. Which I believe is a totally normal kid thing right? They don't even flinch when I raise my voice, and I know they don't identify it as 'yelling.' So if I had to guess I'd say I raise my voice a lot and I actually yell probably once a day?

I know you posted this almost a month ago but I'm slow ;)

I have to ask what exactly is "raising your voice" (as that guy defines it). Because I often raise my voice not in anger but in an attempt to be firm and get a point across. The distinction, one is okay the other not so okay.

That said, I lose my temper too often for my taste. I mean, screaming out of control temper a few times a week. Probably more, but less than once a day. Of course now you've got me wanting to start a log ;)
