Beware: long entry

Some days are just not fun. Today was not the worst day ever, but it wasn't even a slightly cool day. Cameron's pre-op physical with his pediatrician was today. First off, we scheduled the Taurus for an oil change today without thinking that we'd definitely need two cars today. So, Tony went in super-early to work and came home super-early to cart us to the doctor for Cam's 3:30 appointment. Cameron and I slept late this morning, so his nap was kind of pushed back. He actually did not fall asleep until like 12:00. At 2:10, unfortunately I had to wake him up from his slumber. I hate to do that. I'm a firm believer in the Never Wake A Sleeping Child school of parenting. That's like refusing lottery winnings or something, but I digress - as usual. Anyway, I woke him up, cuddled with him for like five minutes (he was still sleepy and a bit cranky...I'd be too!) quickly fed him lunch, gave him a bath and dressed him (and me) all before Tony arrived home at 3:00. Needless to say, we were a bit rushed. So, we get to the office and play in the waiting room FOREVER. I mean, we've never waited at the pediatrician's office for so long. Most of the time, we just skip the waiting room and are sent directly to the exam room. The thing about the waiting room. It's a nice enough room. But it has a tv, a plastic climbing/slide toy. Fine, right? Combine that with about eight other kids, big kids, who are cranky from waiting so long, and whose mothers are pretty edgy from waiting so long, and it's a big ole headache. Cam, of course, thought he has three years old and wanted to hang with the big kids. He kept climbing up the slide and very few of the other kids paid much attention to whether or not they were close to kicking the little toddler. They were too busy standing on and hanging off of the climbing/slide toy thing, while watching tv to notice the little guy. Cam climbed in and out of (dove into, really) the big holes on the bottom of the toy. He really liked it. Maybe we should get one for the backyard next spring? Is backyard one word? OK, here's a picture of the toy, so you know what I'm trying to describe (picture taken on Cam's first birthday, when waiting room was much less crowded):

So, after an hour of protecting Cameron from the crazy big kids, listening to moms threaten their kids to finish their homework and sweating because it was so freaking hot in there, we got called back to room two. Thank GOD! Down to the diaper so they could weight and measure the little/big guy. As soon as the nurse put C-note on the scale, screaming ensued. She was a nice enough nurse, but not to handy with the toddlers, if you know what I mean. Took her forever to weigh him. The measuring was just as traumatic. He just hates that part of the doc visit for some reason. He weighed 29 lbs 4 oz today (I think that's high, because he did not have a, um, bm today). And he was 33.5 inches tall today. Either he shrunk or was measured wrong one or both times, because he was 33.75 inches last month. Just a trivial comment. Yay, so the screaming stopped and Cam busied himself with the tasks of opening the doors under the exam table, removing some of the contents, opening the exam room door and closing the exam room door. And when that got old, he decided to take a walk down the hall in his diaper, peeking into a couple of the other exam rooms. Repeatedly. We waited quite a while in the exam room - longer than usual. It was nowhere as bad as the waiting room, though! Cam gets examined, everything looks fine, yadda yadda yadda (yada yada yada?). His pre-op form is completed. Now he just has to stay healthy and diaper rash free for his surgery on Tuesday. And with the exposure to all those waiting room kids, it might be a miracle if he doesn't get sick.

OK, so exam is over and we go to LaRosa's for dinner. Cam wants to walk, so I let him walk in the parking lot, holding my hand. He's really interested in a guy on the sidewalk, taking a smoke break. He lost his footing and goes down on one knee. No big deal, except he drops his puppy (Baby) into a puddle. Ick! Baby now had a black wet spot on him. So we had to hide Baby from Cam the rest of the night. After dinner, which was yum and uneventful (yes!), we went to the mall in search of socks and shoes for tomorrow night's holiday photo sitting. Only we don't have the stroller - it's in the Taurus, which is still with the mechanic. We pay $5 (FIVE DOLLARS!) to rent a race car stroller at the mall. You put your money in, press the number of which race car you want (they are all the same), press the red button and one is supposed to pop out of its slot. We followed the directions exactly, about 10 times, and no popping occurred. We were getting frustrated, and Cameron was getting heavy (he weighs 29 pounds, for God's sake). Finally, Tony pressed "reset" and pressed a random number and out popped a car. Yippee! Cam really liked "driving" the car and he looked so cute in it. It was almost worth the aggravation. We got some trendy hip shoes for him at good ole Payless (after trying on three pair - rather, cramming three pair onto his monster feet). Got some non-skid socks at Gymbo. Drove the race car around a bit longer. Went to return it and when we did, did not receive our promised $1 refund from the machine. Fine. Screw them. We cared not at that point! Lugged Cameron all the way back to the store where we parked. (Note, Cameron loves escalators! He said, "wow!" when we rode them. I just realized tonight he'd never ridden one before!) He walked most of the way through Lazarus Home Store and loved it of course.

We got home, and I had to pee really badly. I took Cam upstairs, where Tony occupied him, ran back down to throw Baby into the washer for a quick spin, and oops! I leaked pee in a big way. I think maybe I might really be preggo this month. The I Have To Pee Badly And Right NOW sensation is back and I'm not used to it! And I've been up in the middle of the night at least twice nightly for the past few days. I hope it's truly a pregnancy symptom and not just some Incontinent Old Woman fluke. I digress, again. So, we played with Cam, keeping him up way past his bedtime, so Baby would be washed and dried in time for Sleepytime. Cameron had a blast chasing the dogs around. It cracks him up. Half of the time, the dogs aren't even paying attention to him, but Cam thinks they are following him. Too cute. I tried to get the circus on video tonight, but as soon as he sees the camera come out, he runs up to the lens and mugs. Such a ham.

So, he finally fell asleep around 9:30. Whew! What a day. Told you it was not a cool day. Not the worst ever, though. I don't look forward to tomorrow night. Cam's last photo sitting sucked big time. He's no longer a willing participant in such madness as sitting still and smiling on command.

Oh, I saw "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason" this past weekend. I can't comment much on the film yet. I did enjoy it, but think it strayed far far from the plot of the book. I'm not certain about that, so I am re-reading the book right now! I want to be sure before I blabber on and on about this and that. By the way, a few days ago, I successfully completed the Stephanie Plum catalog of novels. For the second time in like seven months. Tony calls me a Book Nerd. Am I? Hmmm, really. I don't know what to think of that. At least I don't watch poker on tv for hours on end. So there.

More fun tomorrow, I promise!
