Chips on my shoulder

Sunday, we had Jim and Jan over for dinner. I made lasagna and it was pretty good! Everyone said they liked it, so I'm making it again this Saturday when Mom, Amy and Shawn come over. Back to Jim and Jan. Well, Jan, specifically. The woman just drives me insane. She is so self-absorbed. Everything is about her all the time, no exceptions. Did she comment on our Christmas decorations? No. We did get to hear, however, about how little they have decorated (since they have no time) and how the rest of their neighborhood is decked out. I don't think she even noticed my hair. Tony said - loudly - "Your new haircut sure looks nice, Melanie" and she didn't even seem to notice he was talking! She was probably too absorbed in her thoughts about how much she hates her job and how unfairly she's treated there. So, I had the island counter kind of decorated. I had a glass ball ornament centerpiece, kind of like this one:

It had two Christmas Yankee candles on either side. Jan sat Cameron on the counter, right in front of my display, and kept feeding him potato chips. OK, I'm not a junk food Nazi by any means. I don't care if Cam has a few chips. Hey, it doesn't even bother me if he has 10 chips. But she must have given him 30 chips. I kept telling her, "let's go easy on the chips or he won't eat his dinner" and stuff like that. I said something to her THREE TIMES. Did she listen? NO! Did she even hear me or was she just ignoring me? Either way, the kid must have had half a bag of potato chips. And...she had the nerve to complain about the candles being in her way! She pushed my whole display back to make room for Cameron. I let it slide. Finally, she got him off the counter and went into the living room. I promptly returned my ornaments and candles to their rightful places. Not 10 minutes later, she's back in the kitchen, with C on the counter, complaining about the candles! I said, "well, maybe he doesn't need to be on the counter." She replied, "I have him up here because of my back!" Ummm, whatever! You mean, you have him sitting because holding him hurts your back? Fine! Sit him on the floor or the couch! He doesn't belong on the counter! And plus - he'd rather be running around anyway than being confined to one spot. Luckily, dinner was ready soon after that and after dinner, we spent most of our time in the living room. URGGGHHHHHH! She just makes me so damn mad! Anyway, she seemed miserable and negative the whole time and I honestly don't think any of us had a wonderful time. Cam had some fun, but was mostly sleepy and whiney.

But we survived. And are all now stronger. And more annoyed!

It has snowed the past two days! It only stuck to the grass yesterday, but when I got up this morning the roads were covered too! It's so neat to see the flakes blowing around and Cameron really dug it. He just stood on the couch with his hands raised above his head and pressed against the window, going "Wow!" Cool kid!

Cameron and I are on our own tonight. Tony has a dinner function for work. I was thinking about calling Mom and inviting ourselves over for dinner! But I think we will just hang out here. That way, I can get more laundry done. Tomorrow night, Amy and I are finally going to Macaroni Grill! Yummmmmm, too excited. That place is so delish. And I'll be able to eat slowly, relishing each bite, rather than shoveling it all in quickly while trying to appease and feed Cam at the same time. It'll be nice.

Everyone knows what this Friday is, right? Sweet. Excited. Anxious. YAYYYYY!

Later, dudes.
